A Message from the NABT President

Dear NABT Community,

It has been an honor serving as your 2025 President. I am so thankful for your commitment to biology education and our wonderful professional community!

As the year draws to a close, I hope you will consider including the National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT) in your year-end charitable giving.

We are so fortunate to still have a tremendous matching opportunity thanks to the generosity of our former President, Mark Little, and his spouse, Kathleen. This means that every cent you donate right now will be doubled, allowing your support to go twice as far in advancing our mission.

Whether it’s $5, $50, or $500, please know that every contribution counts toward supporting vital programs like online professional learning opportunities, our award-winning journal, and the party that is our annual conference.

To honor our history, we’d love for you to consider setting up a recurring monthly gift of $19.38, recognizing the year NABT was founded.

I also want to take this opportunity to once again thank Jacki Reeves-Pepin for her tremendous service to NABT, as well as Megan Collie and Brian Gorg, who will continue to provide outstanding support for our organization behind the scenes.

Thank you again for everything you do for your students and for being a valued part of the NABT family. We are stronger because of you.

With deepest gratitude,

Kirstin Milks

2025 President

2025 NABT Conference Now Available

Thank you for joining us in St. Louis for the 2025 NABT Professional Development Conference! We had a great time welcoming over 700 educators, education researchers, science communicators, partners, and the amazing Jackie Joyner-Kersee to the only event for biology teachers by biology teachers.

  • If you haven't already done so, please take a few minutes to complete the 2025 NABT Conference Survey and 2025 Session Feedback Survey. This information helps the NABT staff and volunteers plan an event that supports you as a learner and leader in life science education.

Thank you again for making the 2025 NABT Professional Development Conference such a tremendous success!

P.S. We're already thinking about the 2026 NABT Conference in Dallas, and know you are too! NABT2026 will be held from October 29 to November 1, 2026, and the call for proposals will be announced in January.

Free Darwin Day Webinar
Journey into Darkness: The Allegory of the Cave

NABT and NCSE are proud to present an encore presentation of the 2025 Evolution Symposium, presented at the NABT Conference in St. Louis.

Plan to join us on Thursday, February 12th at 7:00 PM ET (6:00 PM CT, 5:00 PM MT, and 4:00 PM PT) for this free webinar featuring Rick and Lindsay Hunter.

Rick Hunter will share the amazing story of his co-discovery of the first-known fossils of Homo naledi. Rick Hunter is a caver and small-space specialist who, along with Steven Tucker, discovered the Dinaledi Chamber in the Rising Star cave system in the Cradle of Humankind in South Africa in 2013.

K. Lindsay Hunter was one of six Advance Cave Archaeologists (known popularly as the "Underground Astronauts") selected to excavate within the Rising Star cave system. She is an anthropologist and National Geographic Explorer for the National Geographic Society. Lindsay will discuss her participation in the initial excavation and how a diminutive human ancestor challenged established paleoanthropological views and practices in a big way.

Registration for the webinar will open in January, and everyone is welcome to attend.
