NABT Releases New Vision Statement
The NABT Board of Directors held its first meeting on January 20, 2022 and approved the following vision statement for the association:
NABT cultivates an inclusive community of diverse professionals who advance science literacy and education in service of a society that uses biological principles in their interactions with a dynamic world.
Releasing the vision statement marks the beginning of a months-long strategic planning initiative to guide the National Association of Biology Teachers during the next three years.
Key areas of focus will include:
- promoting professionalism
- supporting a community of practice
- highlighting the role of life science in society
- operating with organizational excellence.
We encourage all NABT members to contribute to this effort. A member survey will be sent in the coming weeks, and we appreciate your responses. We will also share updates and opportunities to get involved as they become available.
All biology and life science educators have a voice and place in our organization. We look forward to hearing how NABT can better serve you in the months and years ahead.

Become an NABT Volunteer
We are also seeking nominations for the 2022 NABT Election. Candidates should demonstrate active participation in NABT (such as prior service as an elected officer, committee chairperson or member, section or affiliate leader, etc.), at least five years of continuous membership in NABT, and more than five years experience teaching biology, life science, or science education. More information about available opportunities is available at 2022 Officer Nomination Form. Do not hesitate to nominate yourself!

Call for NABT 2022 Proposals Now Open
Do you have a great classroom strategy you want to share? Have you got a recommendation for a resource you can't teach without? Do you want to facilitate a discussion about that hot topic you keep seeing in your online PLC?
NABT wants to highlight all of those ideas (and more!) during our in-person 2022 Professional Development Conference planned for November 10-13. We are now accepting proposals for education sessions using our online portal, and the deadline is 11:59 PM on Friday, April 1st.
After April 1st, the NABT Professional Development Committee will review submissions, and acceptance notifications will be emailed to primary presenters by May 15, 2022. Upon acceptance, all session presenters must register before May 31 for your session to be included in the Final Conference Program. Please contact all co-presenters before submission to make them aware of this requirement.
We look forward to sharing your ideas, innovations, inspirations, and iterations in Indy!

NABT Accepting Posters for NEW
CESR Virtual Poster Competition
This virtual competition will be open to student presenters and their faculty/instructors, who will present as a team. The instructor will effectively present an overview of how the CESR is being implemented in the course. The poster portion of the presentation will highlight the student's scientific research as it relates to the project.
Other requirements include:
- The work presented must have been completed as part of a course-embedded research project taught in a high school, two-year college, or four-year introductory level (first or second year) biology course.
- All submissions must include a faculty/instructor who is a current NABT member.
- Entries are limited to one presentation per course and one student presenter per presentation.
Undergraduate students who place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the CESR Competition will be awarded cash prizes ($200, $100, and $50 respectively) and the instructors will receive a complimentary year of membership to NABT. All students will also receive written copies of the judges’ completed rubrics by email after the competition to help them improve their written and oral presentation skills.
Poster abstracts must be received by Thursday, March 31, 2022 and accepted presenters must submit completed presentations by Wednesday, June 1st to enter the competition. Submit online at 2022 CEST Poster Submission

Register Today to Present in the 2022 STEM for All Video Showcase
There is still time to register to be a presenter in the 2022 STEM for All Video Showcase. Registration ends Friday, February 11th at 5:00 PM, EST (or earlier if capacity is reached).
This year’s theme is STEM for All: Access, Inclusion, and Equity. Don’t miss the opportunity to showcase your federally-funded work and share research and innovations in STEM education.
Once you have registered and are approved, you will be invited to submit a less than 3-minute video by April 20th. During the week-long, interactive event, May 10th - 17th, you will discuss your work online with other researchers, practitioners, policymakers and the public at large. Don't miss out on this great dissemination opportunity and chance to learn about related work in the field!
Participating in the showcase will provide you with the opportunity to:
- Learn about related work in the field
- Broadly disseminate your work
- Hear from audiences interested in using project resources
- Receive new ideas and feedback
- Make new contacts and collaborations
