NABT Award Nominations Due March 15th
You recognize excellence in teaching. So do we!! Help NABT honor amazing biology & life science teaching by nominating yourself and/or your colleagues for a 2022 NABT Award by March 15th.
NABT, with the support of our generous sponsors, provides several awards that recognize teachers for their expertise in specific content areas, contributions made by new teachers, and service to NABT, life science teaching, or leadership in learning communities. Each state, province, and territory also attempts to recognize an Outstanding Biology Teacher (OBTA).
The Association also offers two scholarships, the Biology Educator Leadership Scholarship (BELS) and the Jennifer Pfannerstill Travel Award. The BELS program encourages NABT Members who want to further their education at the graduate level. The award recipient must be a practicing educator with less than 10 years of experience who enrolled (or anticipates enrolling) in a graduate program at a Masters or Doctoral level. The Pfannerstill Travel Award is generously supported by Bedford, Freeman, and Worth, as well as private contributions, and is a need-based scholarship providing support for a teacher to attend the NABT Conference for the first time. The awardee receives registration to the NABT Conference, hotel accommodations for the duration of the conference, travel reimbursement, and a one-year complimentary membership to NABT.
Nominate yourself or a colleague by March 15th for one or more of the NABT awards by filling out the online nomination form at 2022 NABT Awards.

Call for NABT 2022 Proposals Due April 1st
After April 1st, the NABT Professional Development Committee will review submissions, and acceptance notifications will be emailed to primary presenters by May 15, 2022. Upon acceptance, all session presenters must register before May 31st for your session to be included in the Final Conference Program. Please contact all co-presenters before submission to make them aware of this requirement.

Posters for NABT
CESR Virtual Poster Competition
Due March 31st
|
NABT is excited to host its first annual Course-Embedded Student Research (CESR) Virtual Poster Competition. Designed to encourage the inclusion of course-embedded research in introductory courses and celebrate student research, this virtual competition is open to student presenters and their faculty/instructors, who will present as a team. The instructor will present an overview of how the CESR is being implemented in the course. The poster portion of the presentation will highlight the student's scientific research as it relates to the project.
Please note: After receiving initial feedback, NABT has updated the criteria below:
- The work presented must have been completed as part of a course-embedded research project taught in a high school, two-year college, or four-year introductory level (first or second year) biology course.
- All submissions must include a faculty/instructor who is a current NABT member.
- Student authors may present their posters as a team.
- Entries are limited to one presentation per student.
Undergraduate students who place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the CESR Competition will be awarded cash prizes ($200, $100, and $50 respectively), and the instructors will receive a complimentary year of membership to NABT. All students will also receive written copies of the judges’ completed rubrics by email after the competition to help them improve their written and oral presentation skills.
Poster abstracts must be received by Thursday, March 31, 2022 and accepted presenters must submit completed presentations by Wednesday, June 1st to enter the competition. Submit online at 2022 CESR Poster Submission

ABRCMS Announces New Poster Symposium for Students
This new and exciting virtual event is an exclusive opportunity for up-and-coming scientists to connect with the ABRCMS community and gain invaluable experience, sharing and presenting their science.
Students whose abstracts are accepted will upload ePoster presentations that will be judged and receive written feedback. The top presentations from each discipline will present their research live to a virtual audience on April 26, 2022. Graduate students and postdoctoral scientists are encouraged to judge.
Be part of this groundbreaking addition to the ABRCMS programming and share this opportunity with students you may know. Plus, the symposium is FREE and open to all who would like to attend.

Help NABT celebrate budding biologists! We provide award certificates for science fairs and competitions, to recognize outstanding student projects, or to honor special achievements in the biological and life sciences.

Celebrate in STEM with
If/Then Ambassadors
This month, the Smithsonian will present “#IfThenSheCan - The Exhibit,” a collection of 120 statues of women in STEM. On display in Smithsonian gardens and in and around select Smithsonian museums from March 5–27, the exhibit is the largest collection of statues of women ever assembled together.
This monumental exhibit features 120 3-D printed statues of contemporary women in STEM and includes some familiar faces like NABT member Tamar Goulet and our friend Shirley Malcom.
