Update from NACE President

Stephen McCall, PE

California is beautiful! Everyone who went to Palm Springs can certify! Matt Machado, California Conference Chair and West Region VP, and the entire conference committee did an outstanding job planning and preparing for our NACE conference. Thank you for the countless hours of work. California really stepped up, with over 200 delegates, exhibitors, and volunteers attending the meeting. The conference started with the US Marine Color Guard and a great arrangement of the National Anthem if I do say so myself. There was some discussion about the incoming president singing every year, but it was vetoed.

The technical sessions had great variety and something for everyone, from AI bridge inspections to Full Depth Base Reclamation to Local Safety projects to Dust Control Product Comparisons. The technical committee chairs did an outstanding job getting everything set up so everyone could earn our continuing education hours. It is great to see how everyone across the country manages their infrastructure and deals with federal disasters or where to find funding for my issues. In my mind, this always pays for my trip.

Managing capital projects presents significant complexities, regardless of your CIP budget. Local and regional government agencies encounter distinct challenges, primarily due to constrained resources. Relying on manual, offline processes, such as Excel Spreadsheets, complicates information retrieval and leads to miscommunication among project stakeholders.

This webinar, with Merrick Madden from Aurigo Software Technolgies, Inc., will delve into innovative strategies for leveraging technology to streamline these processes and optimize project management, especially with limited resources.

UPCOMING MEMBER EVENTS!

National Bridge Preservation Conference

September 9 - 13, 2024

The Bridge Preservation Partnerships are regional forums of bridge professionals— from state agencies, contractors, suppliers, consultants, academia, plus local and federal government agencies—all working together to take advantage of the synergy to be gained from sharing information and identifying common issues for further investigation.

The Partnerships—Midwest, Northeast, Southeast, and Western— each share and publicize information describing improvements in research, materials, design, specifications, construction, management and inspection for preservation, and promote the benefits of bridge preservation through education and outreach.

This year’s National conference will include all four regional partnerships in one meeting. There will be three concurrent tracks with over 60 technical presentations, outdoor demonstrations of bridge preservation treatments and technology, and countless opportunities to network with bridge preservation practitioners from around the country.
