Update from NACE Vice President, Jeff Linkous

As winter has finally made its presence felt in southern Ohio, we've experienced a notable shift in weather patterns. While other regions faced storms in December, our area primarily encountered rain. However, just last week, we experienced our first measurable snow, accompanied by a temperature drop close to zero. Although our winter conditions pale in comparison to those in Nebraska and Minnesota, we are grateful for the preparation we undertook this year, including stocking up on leftover salt from 2023 and receiving our fall order, necessitating the clearing of one of our storage shelters.

In the past few years, we dedicated considerable effort to developing a Safe Streets plan, involving local stakeholders to find solutions. While our focus as engineers traditionally centers around projects and physical improvements, we are now exploring alternative avenues to address issues such as distracted driving, speed-related incidents, and road departures on the county system, particularly concerning young drivers.
