Legislature Adjourns Sine Die
The second session of the 106th Legislature adjourned sine die on August 13. From a four-month suspension to new safety protocols, the coronavirus made the session unlike any other. Despite the challenges, senators passed a property tax reform and business incentive package, as well as nearly 140 other bills.
Six senators are term-limited and will not return next year. NACO sends special thanks to Senators Kate Bolz, Sue Crawford, Ernie Chambers, Sara Howard, Rick Kolowski, and Jim Scheer for their years of service to the State of Nebraska.
NACO will host its annual legislative conference on Oct. 8 to set the association’s legislative priorities for next year. Details, including whether the event will be in-person or remote, will be available in September.
The 2021 legislative session will convene on January 6. Bills from 2020 will not carry over and bill introductions will start with LB1 for the new biennium.
Later this month, NACO will publish a summary of the legislation affecting counties. Legislation without a specific effective date will take effect on November 14, 2020.
