Message From Your Chair

Greetings Relatives,

We hope your summer is going well and that you’re finding time to rest and recharge with family and friends. I’m excited to share that we have officially welcomed our newly elected officers of the Native American Democratic Caucus of New Mexico for the 2025 to 2027 term. We are a passionate, dedicated team of Native women stepping into these leadership roles with a clear vision and a shared commitment to building power and uplifting the voices of our communities.

I hope you’ll join us on this journey. While recent months have brought renewed energy, they’ve also been filled with deep concern. Across the country, we’ve seen Native-led organizations, tribal sovereignty, and our relatives in public service come under attack. These are not isolated incidents. They are part of broader efforts to undermine our rights, our lands, and our futures.

As Native peoples, we carry strength in our traditions, beauty in our diversity, and resilience in every generation. Our power lies in our unity, in our vote, and in showing up for one another.

My vision for the Caucus is to continue building bridges across urban, rural, and tribal communities. Civic engagement remains at the core of our mission. Registering Native voters, increasing turnout, and ensuring our voices are heard at every level of government is vital.

We also aim to expand communication with our members and elevate the issues that matter most to our communities. To do this, we need your help. If you are passionate about outreach, policy, voter engagement, or just want to get more involved, we would love to hear from you. Volunteers are the heart of this movement and there’s never been a more important time to take action.

Together, we can grow this Caucus, support Native leadership, and protect the future for the next generations.

With gratitude and solidarity,

Jana Pfeiffer, Diné

"Big, Beautiful Bill Act passed, Native American benefits protected"

The newly passed “One Big, Beautiful Bill Act” includes work requirements for Medicaid and SNAP, but Native American and Alaska Native individuals have successfully secured exemptions. This protection recognizes the unique economic challenges faced by tribal communities and safeguards vital benefits for thousands of Indigenous families.
