Farewell, but not Goodbye!
Carol Wright Kenderdine has served as the Co-Director for the National Aging and Disability Transportation Center (NADTC) since its inception, as well as, Executive Director of Easterseals Project Action. On January 1, 2022, Carol stepped down from this leadership role at NADTC, but will continue to work with Easterseals as the Assistant Vice President of Transportation & Mobility, overseeing the direction of the Easterseals Transportation Group and Easterseals Project Action Consulting.
Carol has applied her expertise to positively impact the field of transportation through her writing, training, and speaking. While she will be missed at NADTC, Carol will continue to influence the transportation industry through her work at Easterseals.

Please help us congratulate Carrie Diamond for being named Co-Director of NADTC at Easterseals. Carrie joined Easterseals in March 2020 and brings extensive knowledge in providing technical assistance and training for transportation and volunteer programs in the aging network, including volunteer driver programs, demand responsive bus service, mobility management, travel training, and transportation voucher programs in central Wisconsin.

Office Hours: Improving Transportation Access for People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

The National Aging and Disability Transportation Center (NADTC) office hours are focused on enhancing training and technical assistance opportunities and offer further opportunities to interact with your peers, topic experts and NADTC staff.
On February 10 from 2:00-3:00 PM ET NADTC’s office hours will focus on accessible transportation services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) to access employment/vocational training, healthcare, education, socialization, and other daily activities. This session will feature a presentation by Jessica Johnson of Bayside Community Network Inc. If you are interested in learning about transportation options for people with I/DD and share information on how your organization assists people with I/DD in accessing transportation services, please join us for this interactive discussion.

What We Have Learned So Far
This blog post summarizes the findings of NADTC's transportation diversity, equity and inclusion survey, which documented the needs and experiences of older adults, younger adults with disabilities and caregivers from historically marginalized and underserved communities in accessing and using local transportation options across the U.S. The survey was conducted in partnership with V&L Research and Consulting between February and April of 2021. Creating a Transportation Committee that Reflects all Community Voices
NADTC recently updated a guidebook for community groups who are considering the creation of a transportation committee for the first time, and for existing committees to assist in increasing their effectiveness. The guidebook walks users through the essential components of a successful meeting and how to bring riders, advocates, local leaders, human service agencies and business owners to the table to enhance accessible transportation in their community.

Transportation's Challenging COVID Recovery
In the fall of 2021, NADTC hosted an online course focused on how human services transportation programs are managing services and preparing for the future amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants exchanged information on the impact of COVID-19 on their programming and the related challenges and successes of managing a transportation program during the pandemic. This blog post highlights common themes that emerged from these discussion forums.

NADTC released a Transportation Trends Report that reviews trending topics in transportation from 2020. The Trends Report provides an overview of what’s happening in the industry and important transportation issues in communities across the United States.
This informational brief highlights Inclusive Planning for Older Adults and Persons with Disabilities, emphasizing the importance of inclusion when developing policy and future programming to create equitable mobility solutions to meet the needs of the people who use the service. January's spotlight also includes information on current research findings and recommendations for addressing the transportation needs of older adults and persons with disabilities.

Census 2020: Implications for FTA Grant Programs

In December, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced the launch Housing and Services Resource Center (HSRC). The HSRC is a hub of coordination efforts to improve access to affordable, accessible housing and services that make community living possible. Many older adults and people with disabilities not only need affordable, accessible housing, but also community-based supportive services, like transportation to successfully thrive in the community.
Through a partnership with HUD and the Administration for Community Living, USAging serves as the administrator for the HSRC initiative, visit their website to learn more about housing resources and ways your transportation program can become more involved in making community living possible.

New applicants are invited to submit a proposal for the FY 2022 AmeriCorps Seniors - American Rescue Plan Senior Demonstration Program (American Rescue SDP) funds. Applicants are required to address one or more of the following Focus Areas: Disaster Services, Economic Opportunity, Education, Environmental Stewardship, Healthy Futures, and Veteran and Military Families. Please note this funding opportunity is available to those who do not currently have an active grant with AmeriCorps Seniors. Application Deadline: Thursday, February 3, 2022 at 5:00 pm ET.
