Monthly Observances

Native American Heritage Month

November is Native American Heritage Month, a time to honor and recognize the achievements of the original inhabitants, explorers, and settlers of the United States. Learn more about stories and artwork that highlight this important observance.

Older Driver Safety Awareness Week

Older Driver Safety Awareness Week, observed December 2–6, 2024, highlights the importance of supporting older adults' safety on the road and providing alternative transportation options when needed. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration offers free educational resources for older drivers and caregivers to help ensure everyone can enjoy their later years to the fullest. The materials also are designed to help caregivers concerned about their loved one’s safety. Ensuring the safety of older adults behind the wheel is very important, but when it is time to give up the keys, transportation providers play a pivotal role in offering ride alternatives.

U.S. DOT & FTA Resources

The Enhanced Mobility of Seniors & Individuals with Disabilities Program Guidance 9070 Circular was recently revised. FTA has also released a series of training videos designed to provide an understanding of the recently revised program guidance. The Circular Update videos, including Section 5310 can be found on FTA's website, along with the updated Circular information.
