NADTC Announces the Rural Community Innovations Transportation Planning Grant | |
NADTC is pleased to announce the 2024 Rural Community Innovations: Transportation Planning Grant. This new opportunity will offer up to $35,000 per grantee to develop a written plan of action to guide implementation of identified strategies. Eligible applicants include local and regional private nonprofit or government organizations located in rural communities, including tribes. Eligible recipients of FTA's Section 5310 program are also encouraged to apply.

NADTC recently launched its Innovations Showcase, a publication dedicated to celebrating and enhancing the visibility of groundbreaking transportation programs. In 2023, NADTC honored 14 exceptional programs across six pivotal categories: Accessibility, Coordination, Cross Jurisdictional Boundaries, Equity, Health Care Access and Technology.

Older Americans Month
The Administration for Community Living has released promotional materials to assist in celebrating Older Americans Month in May. This year's theme, Powered by Connection, recognizes the impact that meaningful relationships and social connections have on our health and well-being. The Clearinghouse for Older Road User Safety (ChORUS) has also developed helpful tools to promote driver safety! Having access to affordable and reliable transportation is critical for making those social connections happen!

National Bike Month
Bicycles are used by people of all ages and abilities not only for recreation, but for transportation too! Check out NADTC’s publication, Bicycle Transportation For Older Adults and People with Disabilities to learn about two of NADTC’s grantees who expanded access to bicycle transportation; one to start a community bike program for older adults, and the other to conduct research on adaptive bicycles as part of an effort to develop a shared-ride option for older adults and people with disabilities.

FTA is seeking input on proposed updates to the Rural Areas Formula Grant Programs Circular, which includes guidance for the Formula Grants for Rural Areas (Section 5311) program, the Bus and Bus Facilities (Section 5339(a)) program, and the Tribal Transit programs. In addition, changes may be seen in the Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities Circular (Section 5310), which is also in the process of being updated.
FTA published a notice summarizing the proposed circular updates in the Federal Register. Comments are due by June 3, 2024.

U.S. Attorney General signed a Final Rule under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to ensure the accessibility of web content and mobile applications for people with disabilities. The final rule mandates technical standards for state and local governments to help ensure the accessibility of their programs and services provided through the web and mobile apps, are accessible for all users. For more information, a Fact Sheet has been developed to understand these new guidelines.

N-CATT is accepting applications for its first-ever State of the Industry Tech Demonstration, which will take place in Grand Rapids, MN, July 22-25. N-CATT will gather a small group of transit operators to study an automated vehicle (AV) deployment in a small-town setting (goMARTI). The demonstration aims to help agencies already considering AV deployment get a better understanding of how AVs can work for transit systems in their community. Applications are due by 5PM EDT on May 3.
