New Publication: Coordination in Planning

As part of the Coordination Initiative, NADTC worked with Maricopa Association of Governments in Phoenix, AZ to bring together state and local transportation stakeholders, as well as non-traditional community partners to discuss the planning they are required to do. This 2-day event allowed attendees to share knowledge of transportation needs of older adults and people with disabilities and encouraged cross-sector partnerships to identify existing plans and how they may intersect. You can review the full Coordination in Planning report on our website.

NADTC recognizes the important roles women have had in shaping transportation systems, advocating for accessible infrastructure, and contributing to the advancements in community mobility. By honoring their achievements, we can inspire future generations of women to continue advocating for equitable transportation solutions that benefit everyone. If your agency is celebrating or supporting DEI initiatives that encourage gender equality within transportation, please share your story with us by filling out this quick form!

sustainable transit for a healthy planet

There's still time for transportation agencies to submit plans that combat climate change to FTA's Sustainable Transit for a Healthy Planet Challenge. Agencies can submit strategies like converting their fleet to low- or no emissions, or by making their facilities more efficient. Submissions are due by March 15, winning selections will be recognized in April as part of Earth Day.

The Mobility, Access and Transportation Insecurity (MATI) program, seeks to support the planning and development of innovative projects that can help address transportation insecurity issues. The goal of this opportunity is to empower non-traditional groups, like community-based organizations or non-profits, to incorporate ideas for the improvement of transportation options in their community. Applicants must submit a letter of interest by March 15.

Partner Resources

The final Older Americans Act regulations, published by the U.S. Administration for Community Living (ACL), reflect input from over 750 individuals and organizations. eNews readers are reminded that OAA funds may be used as match for Federal transportation funding, including Section 5310. The importance of transportation and how this vital service relates to the Older Americans Act is mentioned many times in the comments. Importantly, transportation is recognized in the definitions as an access service and a “lack of transportation” is named as an indicator of “greatest social need.” These regulations go into effect on March 15, 2024, a brief overview of the final rule is available here.

Access to safe housing, transportation, education or job opportunities can have a major impact on people’s health, well-being and quality of life. The White House has released the first ever U.S. Playbook to Address Social Determinants of Health (SDOH), which highlights steps that agencies can take to support equitable health outcomes across communities.
