NDEAM_Advancing Access and Equity

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and NADTC published a new blog that highlights how people with disabilities can assist in filling our workforce needs across the country. NDEAM's theme for 2023 is "Advancing Access and Equity" and recognizes the importance of ensuring all people have an equal opportunity to contribute their skills and talents. Don't Forget to Register for Our Online Course!


Registration is still available for NADTC's online course, Creative Solutions to Rural Transportation, running from October 23 to November 17! The course focuses on the challenges and solutions of rural transportation, funding, volunteer transportation, technology and coordination, while incorporating DEI into rural transportation planning. Registration closes on October 13.

2022 Equity and Accessibility Implementation Grants


NADTC's seven innovation grantees have successfully completed their projects and have shared details of their projects with fellow grantees, NADTC staff and representatives from FTA. Full project descriptions and final presentations are available on our website.

New Pictures Added to NADTC's Photo Gallery!

As part of the 2022 Implementation Grant projects, each grantee had the opportunity to work with a professional photographer to showcase their transit systems! Check out the newly added pictures on NADTC's Photo Gallery, all photos include alt-text, photo credits, and are free to all users.

Happening Next Month

October is National Pedestrian Safety Month, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has enhanced its efforts to improve safety for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users. In 2021, nearly a quarter of pedestrian deaths in traffic incidents were over the age of 60. Visit the NHTSA website for more information and insights to this important topic.

U.S. DOT and FTA Resources

Webinars and Training: FTA has made available recordings and training materials related to transit program oversight, procurement, financial management, and triennial reviews.


Drug and Alcohol Testing: U.S. DOT has issued a final rule to include oral fluid testing as part of an organization's drug and alcohol testing program. This provision has been prompted as an additional measure to ensure accurate results, especially in states who have legalized marijuana for medical or recreational use.


Dear Colleague Letter: To promote equity in public transportation, FTA is highlighting grant programs that can be used to provide real time services or allowing for intermediate stops to eligible ADA complementary paratransit riders

Funding Opportunities


  • Emergency Relief Program: FTA is reopening its 2023 Emergency Relief Program and making funding available to help transit agencies recoup costs from natural disasters. Agencies affected by major disasters in 2017 and between 2020-2022 may apply for a share of the $110 million in funding. Deadline: October 31, 2023
