Work-Based Learning

Outcomes-driven work-based learning (WBL) plays a powerful role in helping students define their career aspirations, gain the skills they need for success, and connect with industry professionals who can support their path forward. NAF released a WBL Participation Tracker to make it easier to capture each activity’s student impact.

Since the beginning of the 2023-24 school year, over 25,000 students have completed a WBL activity.

Each month, we send a monthly summary with key metrics collected from the WBL Participation Tracker to academy and district leaders. Educators and academy leads across the NAF Network are sharing positive feedback about how the expanded data available through the WBL Tracker is enabling them to see the impact of WBL activities, assess equity, and make adjustments.

“I go into the Tracker and input events and actually track this not only in the moment but also at the end, I was able to look through the data and see how effective my events were, what the students got out of it, and also, most importantly, to make sure I’m not repeating the same students in these same events.”

- Angela Morello, MBA - Business Education Teacher and NAF Academy of Finance Lead Teacher, Miami Killian Senior High School

Feel free to connect with your academy about the data, and take a look at this short video to explore how you can use the WBL Participation Tracker data to impact students.

Advisory Board Convenings

Last year, NAF staff members spearheaded a new advisory board training model; the inaugural session was held in Detroit in the fall. There will be several opportunities for advisory board members to learn and network with peers in 2024. These regional events will cover practical topics that will improve board effectiveness and give board members the tools to better impact students.

More information will be forthcoming. If you are interested in a sponsorship or leadership role, please contact Darrell Kain, Director, Advisory Board Activation

International Day of Education

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed January 24 the International Day of Education.
