Research shows that children with involved, loving fathers are significantly more likely to do well in school, have healthy self-esteem, and exhibit positive social behaviors compared to children with uninvolved fathers. In this webinar, we will learn about some of the most effective fatherhood programs at work in the field today. Our presenters will share what they do in their own communities and what works across the country. Come with your questions for our panelists about best practices in father engagement.

The National Commission on Social, Emotional, & Academic Development began with the simple intention of listening—really listening—to young people, parents, teachers, school and district leaders, community leaders, and other experts. What they heard was profoundly hopeful. There is a remarkable confluence of experience and science on one point: Children learn best when we treat them as human beings, with social and emotional as well as academic needs. The promotion of social, emotional, and academic learning is not a shifting educational fad; it is the substance of education itself.

Baltimore’s fathers are an untapped resource when it comes to educating children, say organizers of a Baltimore City Schools-led summit Saturday that drew more than 100 men, many with sons and daughters in tow.
During a daylong
Fatherhood Engagement Summit
at Frederick Douglass High School in Northwest Baltimore, fathers and other male caregivers could get help with job, health and legal services, take part in a yoga class or join breakout sessions such as one on raising daughters and another to help men handle stress and learn to forgive.

male engagement program
at FRCS so last year we implemented a pilot WATCH D.O.G.S. program in the elementary school,” she said. “Between 200 and 300 dads attended the kickoff event last year, as well as this year.”

“Trust in our organization is built with every interaction. Every time we get on the ground to tie the shoe of a student. Every time we meet a parent in the parking lot to tell them something great about their child. Every time we make a contact with a family member of one of our staff members to let them know how much they are valued," says Joe Sanfelippo, the superintendent of the Fall Creek School District in Fall Creek, Wisconsin.
