NAIA 2027 POLICY AGENDA SURVEY
LET US KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS
| | |
As Election Day approaches, the National Artificial Intelligence Association (NAIA) is preparing for the 120th Session of the United States Congress. The next Congress will officially convene on January 3, 2027.
Yesterday we reached out to NAIA members for their input for guiding the issues and initiatives we prioritize before Congress, the White House, federal agencies, and state governments next year. Today we would like to reach out to you, our bi-weekly newsletter readers for your feedback.
Please follow the link below to take this brief survey. It should not require more than five or ten minutes of your time to complete.
We will use your answers and comments to help define our policy priorities and also for structuring our program and panels for NAIA's Second Annual AI Policy Summit on Capitol Hill coming next February (more details on the Summit soon!)
Thank you for participating in this important survey and should you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our new Vice President for Government Affairs, Mr. Jason Reiderer at Jason@theNAIA.org
| | Announced today that three executives from the newly named Center for Advancing Innovation and Standards for Super Intelligence (CAISSI) will move to The White House and report to Office of Science and Technology Policy Director Michael Kratsios. | |
SUPER INTELLIGENCE FORCE CREATED, NAMES CZAR AND ADVISORS AND ISSUES A DIRECTIVE ON REPORTING ALL AI INCIDENTS
We have seen several moves related to artificial intelligence by President Trump and his Administration since issuing his Executive Order 14434: Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence.
On Sunday, October 4th, the President announced the Super Intelligence Force with a 120-day mandate to evaluate AI risks, protect critical infrastructure, and secure American dominance in the sector. He appointed the National Director of Intelligence, Jay Clayton, as Chair of the Super Intelligence Force (SIF) and the following individuals to the task force.
- Emil Michael, (Vice Chair) the Pentagon's CTO and Dept. of War Under Secretary for Research and Engineering.
- Andrew Ferguson (Vice Chair) Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chairman
- Scott Kupor (Vice Chair) Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Director
- Vice President J.D, Vance
- White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles
- Condoleezza Rice, Former Secretary of State under President George W. Bush
- David Sacks, Former White House AI Czar under President Trump
Axios reported that on Friday the SIF issued a statement that all artificial intelligence incidents must be reported after information on an Anthropic breach of the State Department in May was released. Previously this was voluntary reporting and now has become mandatory:
- "SI companies must immediately disclose incidents involving their models and follow with swift, decisive action to remedy any and all harm," the SI Force statement said.
- "We also expect these companies to work with the affected systems to ensure that similar incidents do not occur."
Read the complete task force statement and Axios article HERE.
This morning in Politico, Scott Kupor, OPM Director and SIF Vice Chair, clarified that the task force "will work closely with the Justice Department and other law enforcement agencies to help hold artificial intelligence companies to safety expectations."
"The task force’s responsibilities will focus less on assessing frontier AI capabilities and more on establishing standards for developers based on existing criminal and civil laws, Kupor said."
"Kupor described law enforcement coordination as one part of the task force’s broader safety agenda. It will work to audit pledges made through the recent AI accords; conduct a full risk assessment of the technology; and ensure the government has the resources to respond if something goes wrong with a model."

TOP SENATE COMMERCE DEMOCRAT
SENATOR MARIA CANTWELL RELEASES AI FRAMEWORK
As POLITICO reported last Wednesday, "Sen. Maria Cantwell, the top Democrat on the Commerce Committee with vast jurisdiction over artificial intelligence policy, outlined six AI safety principles Wednesday morning — tenets she believes should underpin any legislation to stave off the greatest threats posed by the rapidly-evolving technology."
In a press release from her office as Ranking Member of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, Senator Cantwell stated “To manage risks from advanced AI systems we need clear safety standards, continuous testing, and reporting of serious failures. America can lead the world in AI by building systems that are not only more capable, but safer and more secure.”
Sen. Cantwell’s framework is built around six principles, many of which she has promoted for years as Ranking Member and former Chair of the Commerce Committee:
- Clear, Enforceable Federal Safety Standards for Frontier AI Development and Deployment
- Continuous Testing, Reviewing and Auditing to Verify Standards are Met
- Transparency and Accountability Through Disclosure, Oversight and Consequences
- Public Private Partnerships to Benefit the Public Good
- Protections for Children, Support for Workers and Human Oversight of Consequential AI
- U.S. Led Global Cooperation in Adopting and Upholding Common AI Safety and Security Standards

"ADDING AI TO AIRCRAFT DESIGN"
NAIA GOLD MEMBER GE AEROSPACE FEATURED
Charlotte Ryan of Aerospace America writes about and interviews NAIA Corporate Member, GE Aerospace, on optimizing the industry's design and test process but there are still plenty of regulatory hurdles.
"Inside GE Aerospace’s research center in Niskayuna, New York, a computer terminal started a simulation. The result, produced within seconds, was a preliminary design for a hypersonic ramjet engine.
Such concepts have traditionally been the result of months of design work by a team of engineers. This time, however, the lead developer fed the desired flight conditions and criteria, including thermal performance and the engine’s structure, into a generative AI dashboard, which returned a design almost immediately.
The demonstration, announced by GE in May and recounted to me by Joe Vinciquerra, general manager and senior executive director of GE Aerospace Research, illustrates the kind of computational speeds the company says could significantly accelerate the development of next-generation commercial aircraft engines, including RISE. The company is developing this open-fan concept with French partner Safran Aircraft Engines through their joint venture, CFM International."
