Prospecting by Five
by David Weekmark ( www.chron.com )
When visiting a prospect at home for the first time, leave 10 to 15 minutes early to ensure you're not late because of traffic. Bring five extra business cards as well as pamphlets, fridge magnets or whatever else you use to introduce yourself. Use those extra minutes to knock on five doors: each neighbor beside your prospect and the three across the street. Begin by explaining you are early for an appointment with the neighbor and thought you would introduce yourself. If your organization uses territories, explaining you are the "neighborhood rep" for your company can go along way as well.
30 Health Bills Facing NAIFA-Florida – You Are Needed at Day on the Hill
Our Lobbyist Tim Meenan has learned that the Speaker of the House has a very aggressive agenda this Session – related to health care. Tim says that the House may have as many as 30 bills affecting health care and at least some of them will be aimed at health insurance! This, in addition to other health-insurance-related bills he expects to be introduced.
Tim Meenan needs as many of you as possible to attend – particularly if you are involved in the health insurance arena. He needs every legislator visited by NAIFA-Florida members to communicate our issues – which means we need NAIFA members from every legislative district (both House and Senate) to attend our Legislative Day on the Hill – Tuesday, March 19 in Tallahassee. Your participation in DOH is vital to our advocacy efforts before the Florida Legislature, the Department of Financial Service, and the Governor's office. Read More

A.M. Best Features Opioid Story Written by NAIFA-Florida Member
February’s issue of A.M. Best online magazine features NAIFA-Florida’s Cheryl Canzanella’s real-life story about opioid abuse. Her story involves the abuse and eventual death of her husband, Colin, in August, 2017.

In the article, “The Bitter Pill” she takes the reader back to that fateful day when she received a phone call from a medical worker telling her that she had to get to the hospital. She then walks the reader through some of what she had to deal with, living with someone who was addicted to opioids, and how it impacted her life. Canzanella then draws the connection to how the nationwide epidemic is impacting our industry and our incomes – and just how impactful it is.

Cheryl was a main platform speaker at NAIFA-Florida’s Financial Advisors Sales Symposium last summer in Orlando, where she talked about her experience and the impact on our industry. She is a member of NAIFA-Jacksonville and is Brokerage Director for MassMutual.

NAIFA Consolidates All Member Messaging into One Weekly Online Newsletter: NAIFA 20/20
Hopefully, you’ve already noticed it, but on Friday, Feb. 1 NAIFA began send out an online weekly newsletter called NAIFA 20/20. The newsletter comes out every Friday and contains all NAIFA member messaging – rather than sending out several e-mails on different topics and from different departments – throughout the week.

In recent issues, items included valuable information on upcoming sales & career webinars, discounts on upcoming industry meetings, ClientCast schedule for February, and advocacy news.

According to NAIFA’s Michele Grassley-Clarke, the purpose of the weekly publication is to reduce the number of emails our members receive from NAIFA and to enhance the member experience. Multiple emails from NAIFA, plus messaging from the state and local associations, have combined to overwhelm many of our members in recent years. NAIFA recognizes the situation and has now taken steps to reduce the number of NAIFA emails our members receive – with the creation of NAIFA 20/20 newsletter.

To ensure you receive your weekly newsletter, make sure you spam filter does not block membernews@naifa.org .
NAIFA's Leadership in Life Institute (LILI)
Class Being Formed for 2019
NAIFA-Florida is looking to form at least one LILI class in 2019 -- and is trying to determine the level of interest from members.
Developed by NAIFA, LILI is provided at the state level to benefit individual members. The institute was designed specifically to develop high-caliber leaders through personal growth and is built upon the conviction that leadership of others begins with leadership of oneself. LILI creates a culture - a unique learning environment - which encourages participants to bring out the best in themselves, and then apply what is learned across every aspect of their lives. The coursework is presented in six one-day sessions over a six-month period. Class size is limited to 12 students. (Click here for more information and to contact NAIFA-Florida regarding your interest in taking a class.)
