Engage with Potential Clients on Instagram

Instagram search marketing is a novel way to get new clients for a financial advisory company. Follow these steps to get Instagram working for your business. First, search a location or a hashtag related to a financial advisory business. Next, leave a comment on every photo for the top nine results in the last 24-48 hours. Make sure your comments provide value to the photos and your business. You can easily comment on 90 pictures in an hour, which means you have reached out to at least 2,700 potential leads per month for free. If your content on Instagram is top quality and you have a CTA in the bio, there should be conversions. The biggest thing is to provide value in terms of the image. Spammy comments will not mean anything and be ignored.

SECURE Act, Health Issues, Taxes, Government Funding

by Danea Kehoe, Counsel to NAIFA

Retirement Savings: Efforts to enact the SECURE Act continue, but so far, without success. Key Senators are hunting—to date, to no avail—for a way to overcome objections by Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Pat Toomey (R-PA) so the bill can pass the Senate (as you’ll recall, the House has already passed the bill) by unanimous consent (UC). They are also looking for a legislative vehicle to which H.R.1994 can be attached. There’s speculation around using the trade bill, or the health reform bill, for that. But neither of those bills is a sure thing to pass this year either. But the effort continues.

There are also end-of-year efforts underway to enact a solution to the crisis confronting union members whose pension plans are bankrupt or on the verge of bankruptcy (which situation is also threatening the solvency of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC)).

It still looks like the most likely possibility is that SECURE (and possibly a multiemployer (union) pension bill) will get added to the last government funding bill that passes Congress – and that’s looking like it won’t happen until 2020, possibly as late as March. But Majority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) continues to tell us that SECURE “will” pass the Senate, so lobbying (and hope) remains intense . Read More

NAIFA-Florida member Bryan Blackwell, CRPC® of Cape Coral is running for Lee County’s House District 77, seeking to replace term-limited Rep. Dane Eagle. Blackwell, a republican, is a longtime Cape Coral resident and was the first candidate to launch a campaign for the seat in the 2020 election cycle.
He has lived in Southwest Florida for 28 years and co-owns and operates Molloy Financial Group , a private wealth advisory practice of Ameriprise Financial that focuses on comprehensive financial planning, investment advice and estate planning.

The former U.S. Marine and Army National Guard Sgt. said “My military career taught me the value of a life of service and giving back, and I want to continue giving back to the place that I’ve called home for the last 28 years,” he said in a news release. “We need leaders in Tallahassee who’ll fight for what we believe in here, and I am ready to answer that call.” Blackwell is a political newcomer, though he has deep roots in the area.

Please dig deep and be sure you’ve made (or added to!) your annual IFAPAC contributions before the end of 2019! NAIFA-Florida Political Committee Chair Jeff Chernoff reports that statewide giving to IFAPAC is down somewhat for the year and that we must reach our state goal of $152,000 by 12/31/19.

IFAPAC contributions are vital to the protection of the careers of our NAIFA-Florida members! The financial support of state and federal legislative candidates allows our NAIFA and NAIFA-Florida lobbyists access – to discuss and educate legislators and candidates about vital issues and potentially harmful bills which impact our business.

Members of NAIFA-Florida are encouraged to contribute – those who are first-time contributors and current contributors (increase your giving or add to your current level) – before the end of 2019. Visit the NAIFA website at naifa.org, click the “Advocacy” tab at the top, then click “IFAPAC”. You can contribute online or print a contribution form. While you’re there, fill out an IFAPAC Directive form. Last day to make online contributions for 2019 is Tuesday, Dec. 31. (Deadline for 2019 to mail checks and credit card contributions is Friday, Dec. 20.)

Help us help you! And we can do that only if members contribute to their PAC – IFAPAC !! Want more information? Contact NAIFA-Florida Political Committee Chair Jeff Chernoff at:  jmc@iat.bz

NAIFA-Florida is forming at least one LILI class in 2020 – to begin in February -- according to NAIFA-Florida LILI Chair Michele Wilkinson.

Developed by NAIFA, LILI is provided at the state level to benefit individual members. The institute was designed specifically to develop high-caliber leaders through personal growth and is built upon the conviction that leadership of others begins with leadership of oneself. LILI creates a culture - a unique learning environment - which encourages participants to bring out the best in themselves, and then apply what is learned across every aspect of their lives. The coursework is presented in six one-day sessions over a six-month period. Class size is limited to 12 students.

Wilkinson announced that the 2020 class will be moderated by Jeff Chernoff, from Tampa and who serves on the NAIFA-Florida Board of Directors.

"For years I put off applying for LILI because I wasn't sure what benefit I would receive by attending yet another " leadership" class! I was totally wrong in my skepticism and have been pleasantly surprised by the wealth of wisdom & opportunities afforded me after graduation! This class isn't just for growing your business. The skills you'll learn will help you in your everyday life, especially with challenging family dynamics that so many of us are facing." ......... Toni Stanaland, NAIFA-Tampa

(For more information, go to the NAIFA-Florida website at naifa-florida.org. Or contact LILI Chair Michele Wilkinson at michele.wilkinson@bks-partners.com or at 813-724-3107. Or contact class Moderator Jeff Chernoff at jmc@iat.bz or at 813-933-7333.)
