Board & Committee Updates

The Board wishes to encourage everyone to stay safe and healthy during these unprecedented times we are living in. Our first concern is the health and well-being of our friends and colleagues and their families. We encourage everyone to follow the instructions given by the local and national authorities and stay home as much as possible as we ride out this storm. The Board is aware that many of you have questions and concerns about the NAJIT conference scheduled for June. At this point, we have not moved to cancel the conference, but we are very closely monitoring this extremely fluid situation produced by the pandemic which shifts daily, if not hourly. The Board is exploring all available options guided by our foremost priority of protecting the health and well-being of the membership. The conference page of the NAJIT website will be updated as we go along. In this newsletter we have compiled a list of helpful links regarding the novel COVID-19, including a link to the AIIC standards for remote interpreting as we look to continue providing our services in the most effective and professional way.

As a reminder, if you receive any job offers or contract offers that include any sort of interview that is held via “hangouts” or that comes from a generic or gmail account, you are most likely dealing with a scam. Please feel free to reach out to trusted colleagues, use the listserv, and email the NAJIT Board if you are concerned that a specific offer may not be legitimate.

New Proteus Editor-in-Chief
NAJIT is proud to welcome the new Editor-in-Chief of Proteus, Salua Kamerow. Salua is a Colombian attorney, holds a Master of Laws from Penn State University, and a Master of Science from the NYU Translation Program. Salua joins a long list of distinguished Editors-in-Chief of Proteus.
