EDUCATION & OUTREACH ACHIEVEMENTS
NAMEPA's Education and Outreach team have been very busy this summer expanding our education programs and community engagement to new heights. Take a look at our greatest achievements!
SUMMER EDUCATION PROGRAMS 2018
231 students have participated in our summer education programs at the Bridgeport YMCA and Boys and Girls Clubs of Stamford, Wakeman Bridgeport, and Wakeman Southport. 180 more students will be reached this summer with all programs focused on marine environment protection and inspiration to Save Our Seas.
On June 25, NAMEPA released our Marine Industry Learning Guide, our third published learning guide . It includes 9 lessons on the Marine Industry and the industry's commitment to protecting their crews and marine environments. So far, this guide has been downloaded over 160 times by people around the world!
ART CONTEST WINNERS
This year we had 136 submissions for our annual art contest, "Better Shipping for a Better Future." Check out the winning pieces here. The artwork will be featured in NAMEPA's 2019 calendar and winners will receive recognition. Next year's contest will center around the IMO's World Maritime Day theme "Empowering Women in the Maritime Community." This program is made possible with partnership with the US Coast Guard and CIP-OAS.
SUMMER OUTREACH EVENTS
This summer, NAMEPA was able to participate in several outreach and tabling events including the Green Vendor Fair, Green the Beach Day, and Capitol Hill Ocean Week . Through these events, we were able to learn more about marine conservation and the efforts other organizations are making, and share the work that NAMEPA does to Save Our Seas.

In July, NAMEPA partnered with Humans for the Future for a beach cleanup and education fair in Westerly, RI. Read more about the event here.

NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR NAMEPA'S 2018 MARINE ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION AWARDS
Know an organization or individual who has done outstanding work towards our mission to "Save Our Seas?" Nominate them for this year's Marine Environment Protection Award. Award categories include Maritime Industry, Environmental Innovation, Seafarers Ministry, and many more.

AWARDS COMPETITION FOR MARINE SCIENCE PROJECTS
NAMEPA and the American Salvage Association are calling for all students who have participated in a science/engineering fair to share and be recognized for their work.

If you or a student you know has submitted a project to such a fair focusing on the challenges that the marine environment faces, send in an abstract and technical paper for our Awards Competition. Submissions are due September 1, 2018.

NEWS THAT'S MAKING WAVES
SAVE OUR SEAS ACT OF 2018
On August 3, the Senate passed Senate Bill 756, the Save Ours Seas Act of 2018. This bill allows NOAA and the State Department to take further action to protect our seas, as well as encourage the President to support Marine Debris Programs and work internationally to prevent further damage to our marine environments. GIRLS + STEM = THE FUTURE
The American Association of University Women's Wyandotte-Downriver Affiliate hosted a STEM Savvy Conference earlier this summer.

The conference invited several guest speakers, all women with education and extensive work experience in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). The conference, meant to encourage young girls to pursue their interests in STEM fields, had a great turn out of 125 girls.
