Norfolk Admirals Mental Health Awareness & Annual St. Hatrick's Game

NAMI Coastal Virginia & The Norfolk Admirals have teamed up again to raise awareness for mental health by creating one memorable night of hockey. Let's face-off to end the stigma!
Tickets for this event can be purchased through our promotional link - a portion of each ticket sold goes back to NAMI which helps us continue to provide free, supportive, and educational community classes and resources.

A series of free 8 weekly classes structured to help family members, partners and significant others to understand and support individuals living with a mental illness, while maintaining their own well-being. Peer-to- Peer
Saturdays

1 - 3 pm

A free, 8-session, weekly educational program for adults with a mental health condition who would like to better understand their condition and journey toward recovery. Taught by two trained people who have lived experience, the program is confidential and includes presentations, discussion, and interactive exercises.
Class location: Norfolk Fitness & Wellness Center,
7300 Newport Avenue, Norfolk.

Children's Challenging Behaviors
Saturday
May 16

A 6-hour class for parents of children aged 16 and under with mental health needs. Taught by trained parents, you will learn the difference between typical and challenging behaviors, how to respond, who to call for help, community resources, the ins and outs of special education and other educational supports and parenting strategies.
Childcare stipends are available. The class will be in Norfolk.

Upcoming Events at the Chrysler Museum

March 19
Enjoy a guided tour of the exhibit featuring work by troubled artist Edvard Munch. Mental health resource information from area cities will be available. Light refreshments provided by Chrysler Museum. 5:30-7:30 p.m.

In partnership with WHRO and the Chrysler Museum, there will be a showing of the documentary "Bedlam," a commentary on the challenges and failures of hospital ER departments, jails and community resources for those living with mental illness. A panel discussion follows the documentary. 6:30-8:30 p.m.

May 2
"Art Therapy & Mental Health", in partnership with Hampton Roads Pride. Guided tour of Edvard Munch exhibit with a focus on Munch's work and his therapy, viewing his art through the lens of his mental health challenges. Guided tour 1:15 pm - 2:00 pm, followed by a discussion on art therapy led by Whitley Rogers, art therapist, plus a talk about the use of arts as therapy led by NAMI members living with mental health issues.
