Mental Health Now. This episode entitled Finding Help, Finding Hope features NAMI Mid-Hudson's Tina Lee. Tina discusses how NAMI has helped both her and her family and how that has led her family to give back to their community by engaging in Ending the Silence presentations in schools, helping to start NAMI on Campus Clubs and participating in CIT trainings. Tina also details the benefits of the Family-to-Family program and how to deal with the realities of having a loved one with a mental illness and the importance of acceptance and tempering expectations for your family member with an illness.
The show also discusses NAMI-NYS's two awareness initiatives, the Ribbon Campaign and NAMI Walks and there is still time for you to participate in these important endeavors.
TAKE ACTION!!!
Raise Awareness and Make Your Community More Mentally Healthy
Start a NAMI Walks Team and Participate in the NAMI-NYS Ribbon Campaign
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and NAMI-NYS is providing you with easy ways to make you community more aware of mental health issues and how people can turn to NAMI-NYS and our local affiliates as a place to find help and hope along with education and support.
The Ribbon Campaign: Communities across the state will be hanging ribbons to make people aware of NAMI and mental health issues. Ribbons can be hung in public spaces, schools and businesses. NAMI-NYS affiliates who have participated in the campaign have dramatically increased the people taking signature programs and have led to stronger relationships with local governments, schools and businesses. Don't miss this opportunity to increase NAMI's identity in your community by participating in the Ribbon Campaign. Click here to learn more about the campaign.
NAMI Walks: May will also find four NAMI-NYS affiliates hosting their NAMI Walks and then in September NAMI-NYS will be having a walk in Albany. There is still a time to start a NAMI Walks Team or contribute to one of New York's five NAMI Walks.
