September Mental Health Focus:

Club members will be working to educate students about self-injury and suicide, and helping understand the reasons and warning signs of these negative coping skills.

National Suicide Prevention Week
----September 5-9, 2022----

NAMI on Campus September Activity Guide - Use the suggestions provided in the NCHS Curriculum to generate your club member's creative processes and adapt them for your campus.

"Know the Signs" Suicide Prevention Kit 2022 provides tools to help plan and implement Suicide Prevention Week activities. Students can use the calendar of Social Media Posts to ignite your school's Suicide Prevention Week activities. Spanish language resources are also provided.

FREE Suicide Prevention Week Posters Download these print-ready posters or let their messages inspire your club members to create their own Suicide Prevention campaign. These can be printed and placed around campus, or around the community. Host a contest on social media to spotlight how the posters are being used by your students. (see what Valley College's Club did)

Out Of The Darkness Walk The Modesto Community walk will be held on October 22, 2022. The health and safety of the participants, staff and volunteers will be top priority. Now, more than ever, it’s important to be there for one another and take steps to safeguard our mental health and prevent suicide. You're invited to join the NCHS Team on October 22, beginning at 10 am -- at Graceda Park, Modesto. Register to join our NCHS team .

Seize The Awkward Campus Toolkit a few radical ideas and activities your club can use to encourage conversations about everyday challenges. Use these ideas and adapt them for your club's social media campaign. (this is an older resource, so some of the links don't work... but it's still some good stuff)
Club Basics
Boost club membership with a few of these resources:

~Use Canva.com to create unique Club logo, information posters, and social media campaigns. Teachers get your own FREE Canva-PRO account!

~Connect with your school's "influencers" to ask if they'll share a post promoting your club

~Work with your campus' Activity Director to promote your NCHS Club at your high school Club RUSH event!

~Use Club funds to purchase Club merch to give away. Use our Vendor List to get a head-start!

~Plan a dynamic Club RUSH event to gain momentum

~Put the NCHS Information Brochure around campus, and pass it out during lunch break. (email a request if your Clubs needs more)

Students want to be part of something that is dependable and predictable. Student leaders work together to develop a consistent meeting agenda, include:

~ Start with a Welcome, Review Community Guidelines/Meeting Norms and Well-Being Activity
~ Reading and Approval of Club Minutes and Budgets

~ Club Maintenance: Social Media/Website/Communications

~ Monthly Mental Health Topic Discussion--View the NCHS Activity Guide as well as the NAMI on Campus Resource website to find something to get the conversation started

~ Activity/Event Reflection and Planning (past, present and future)

~ Close with Reflection: include time for everyone to share a highlight of the meeting

~ Use this Club Meetings 101 slide presentation to give meetings a LEGIT look!
If you haven't already conducted your Club Officer Election, no worries! The election can be held at the beginning of the school year. Clubs need, at minimum, a President, Vice President, and Secretary. Check out the NCHS Student Manual: Guidelines for Election of Officers.
Make every person feel valued and appreciated by recognizing each person's unique situation or interest. The vast experiences of your students are what make the Club strong and diverse. Provide activities and events that intentionally involve every voice. NCHS Student Manual has more!
