Fall Booster Packs Now Available for Free:
NAN is excited to announce STEM curriculum available to Nevada OST programs for free through Moonshot Booster Packs! Learn more about each of the opportunities available this fall. If your program is interested in participating, please notify NAN by Friday, August 6th by emailing m.amaris.knight@unlv.edu
Description of Opportunity:
What is engineering? How do engineers solve problems? How do we help youth learn about and do engineering that is relevant to their lives?
In this community of practice, participants will be introduced to the basics of engineering and leading engineering activities with youth. Sessions will be organized around the 10 Practices for an Engineering Mindset and will include engineering activities, developing engineering activities for youth, and learning specific skills to facilitate engineering activities with youth.

Target Audience:
Best suited for program staff: front-line staff, program managers, and staff trainers who have little to no experience with leading engineering activities, or for those who have some experience and want to strengthen their engineering teaching skills.

Timeline and Commitment:
September – December: Participants attend four, 90-minute sessions, complete 30 minutes of pre-work before each session, and complete culminating survey.
Opportunity Description:
Techbridge Girls is offering three different curriculum training offerings. Ignite Program, Inspire Program, and Change Makers. You cannot apply for more than one offering.
Their program models provide hands-on experiences, with broad STEM content and career exposure, and social/emotional development activities. The programs also engage parents and are supported by rigorous evaluation. Educators delivering our program content receive a full complement of our training, pre-kitted materials/materials lists, and ongoing technical assistance.
Target Audience:
Best suited for program staff: teachers, front-line staff, specialists, and/or coordinators who will participate in the training and teach the curriculum to youth in fall 2021.

Timeline and Commitment:
Ignite Program, 60 minutes; once a week; 8-week duration. Inspire and ChangeMakers program each is 90 minutes; once a week; 12-week duration

Opportunity Description:
This opportunity is for rural programs.
Teen Science Café programs are a free, fun way for teens to engage in lively conversations with STEM experts that explore the advances in science and technology that affect their lives. In these events, teens socialize over teen-friendly food and drink and have a lively conversation with local scientists and engineers about current cutting-edge developments in their fields, all in a relaxed and informal out-of-school setting.
Benefits to Rural Fellows:
All Fellows receive a stipend of $2000 for involvement in the project over a 12-month period and will participate in monthly virtual gathering and one in-person workshop (depending on COVID restrictions.)
Travel expenses will be covered by the project.
To qualify, a Rural fellow must:
Already be working with a group of high school-aged teens outside of school, for example, through 4-H Clubs, science centers, summer camps, or afterschool programs. The goal is to build upon existing youth groups by adding a Teen Science Café component.

This summer, select cities across the country will block traffic to “play streets,” creating child-friendly zones in urban neighborhoods that lack parks and other public amenities. In some cities, play streets are one-time events. Others, like Philadelphia, block off hundreds of streets every day all summer long and have for decades.
HelpKidsRecover.org is a new resource site designed to provide local and state leaders with evidence-based practices for implementing quality afterschool and summer enrichment programs and help meet the American Rescue Plan (ARP) goals of addressing students' academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs.
