Host a Q&A With Astronauts in Space

ARISS-US is accepting proposals from U.S. schools, museums, and community youth organizations (working individually or together) to host an amateur radio contact with an astronaut aboard the International Space Station between July 1 and Dec. 31. To maximize these events, ARISS-US is looking for organizations that will draw large numbers of participants and integrate the contact into a well-developed education plan. Radio contacts are approximately 10 minutes.

Are You Up for a Challenge?

Power to Explore Student Challenge

Audience: Students in grades K-12

Entry Deadline: Friday, Jan. 31

There is still time to join the Power to Explore Student Challenge! NASA invites K-12 students to dream up a new space mission powered by Radioisotope Power Systems (RPS) to any moon in our solar system. The writing contest is open to individual students attending U.S. public, private, charter, or home schools – including those in U.S. territories and schools operated by the U.S. for American personnel overseas. Forty-five semifinalists will receive an RPS prize pack, nine finalists will receive an exclusive virtual session with a NASA expert, and three winners will be awarded a trip for two to NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Ohio. Every student who enters will receive an invitation to a virtual event with NASA experts to learn about what powers the NASA workforce to dream big and explore. NASA TechLeap Prize – Space Technology Payload Challenge

Audience: Undergraduate and graduate STEM students, and individuals ages 18+

Registration Deadline: March 4

Application Deadline: March 20

Managed by NASA's Flight Opportunities program, this challenge seeks ideas for systems that advance technology to address one or more of NASA’s shortfalls. NASA intends to award up to nine prizes worth up to $500,000 each plus the opportunity for a flight test aboard a suborbital vehicle, rocket-powered lander, high-altitude balloon, aircraft following a reduced gravity profile (i.e., parabolic flight), or orbital vehicle that can host payloads. Visit the challenge website to read the application requirements, rules, technical guidelines, and scoring rubric that will be used to assess all valid applications.
