NASA Harvest Highlights: A Packed Week at AGU 24!

NASA Harvest had a busy week at the American Geophysical Union’s 2024 fall meeting! We co-convened a poster session and three oral sessions with our sister consortium NASA Acres.

We had 48 poster presenters and 23 oral presenters present their research during these sessions focusing on U.S. and international agricultural monitoring and emerging technologies in the field of Earth observations for agriculture. We’re happy to have created a space for scientists to share their findings and learn about recent developments in the field.

GEOGLAM Crop Monitor for Early Warning Releases 100th Issue

The GEOGLAM Crop Monitor for Early Warning (CM4EW) released its 100th report this

month! Created in 2016, the CM4EW reports provide monthly consensus-based

information regarding expected crop yield outcomes for countries at risk of food

insecurity, in partnership with the primary agriculture and food security monitoring

organizations globally.

Since its inception, the CM4EW has become a trusted and reliable source of agricultural conditions and is regularly used to inform humanitarian and food security decisions at scale.

Meet Brad Doorn, the Manager of NASA’s Agriculture Program! In this piece by the NASA Science team, we follow Brad's journey from ROTC to the world of agricultural remote sensing. Brad has been a strong advocate for NASA Harvest since our inception and we are delighted to see his contributions to global food security efforts recognized.

NASA Harvest Yield Analysis Included in UN FAO Report

As part of our collaborative efforts with FAO, NASA Harvest's yield analyses have now been included in the FAO’s El Niño impact assessment for Zambia. The successful integration of satellite-derived data into these reports has been spearheaded by Harvest's Crop Condition Co-Lead, Ritvik Sahajpal, and the Harvest team.
