This month we are excited to be featured in the 2019 NASA Spinoff magazine for our work in developing precision, miniaturized piezoelectric positioning systems for the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL).
The technological advances made during this project included the development of novel piezoelectric elements that require
only 10 volts to move, as compared to several hundred volts as is common in the industry. This allowed us to dramatically
reduce the size of the control electronics.

19th New Scale Patent Extends UTAF Motor Applications
Micro mirror angular pointing device is less than 1cm³ in volume
New Scale Technologies has been awarded its 19th US patent. The highly miniaturized, two-axis angular pointing device is an application of the company's UTAF (Ultra-Thin Actuator Family) piezoelectric motor technology.
"This patent expands our established UTAF micro motor technology to generate two axes of orthogonal rotation, over a range of approximately 20 degrees, in volume less than a cubic centimeter," said David Henderson, CEO of New Scale Technologies.
