SARCON 2022
We successfully held our first virtual conference in October. We offered it free of charge as part of our advocacy mission to all SAR responders. Many thanks to the presenters for their time and commitment and to Jamie Sterling for coordinating everything on the technical side. You can find recordings of the presentations at www.sar.academy in case you missed the conference. They are still free at the SAR Academy.
Budget 2023
The Board is currently reviewing the proposed budget for 2023. Every fall the Board spends time looking at our financial trends, future programs, updates and expenses. The directors discuss how the budget and programs can best serve the membership and SAR responders in general. The Board will vote on the budget at the January 2023 in-person Board meeting.
Winter is Here
Many of you may still be having balmy temperatures, but many areas like the Sierra Nevada are seeing significant snowfall and local ski resorts are open. Now is a great time to review your ready pack and add those cold weather items that you may need. This includes extra light sources and batteries since daylight is shorter, and extra clothing layers and calories to stay effective in the field.

This series of episodes gets beneath the surface of an emergency nations are facing across the world. Every year 155,000 people go missing in the UK alone. What does it mean to go missing? Why do some people make the choice to disappear? And how can we protect our vulnerable loved ones better?
Caroline Humer and Karen Shalev Greene set out to hear first-hand experiences of those who have experienced missing persons cases, seeking the people behind the statistics. Listen in on revealing conversations with professionals and practitioners who are working to challenge myths and raise awareness around this much misunderstood social and personal issue.
