NASAR Board of Directors Election Results

Congratulations to Board members Dallas Lane (AZ) and Craig Spieker (OH) on their re-election to the Board for another 3 years. I also want to congratulate Craig McVeay (NV) on his first election win and the exciting journey he has ahead for the next 3 years serving the Association.

We all owe Stephen Lewis (TN) thanks for his service on the Board for the past 3 years. He has offered his valuable time and experience to help us increase the quality of the WEC and other programs.

Heat and Risk

SAR responders face risk everywhere they go. I want to remind you that the oppressive heat that a lot of the nation has been experiencing is one of those risks. SAR management and Safety Officers should be considering the heat impact not just on the missing subject and human searchers, but also our canine and equine partners. To keep everyone safe we should be building in more breaks, shade and climate-controlled rehab areas, extra hydration stations, and hydration breaks. Make sure your medical plan considers heat impacts and addresses the response.

New Association Management Software Installation

In a few weeks we will be transitioning from our current association management system to a new system. Our current system called Avectra, manages your member profile, our online store, and a few other minor processes. We put Avectra in place in 2013, and it has served us decently, but not perfectly. Avectra is being retired by the vendor and that forces us to move to a new platform pretty quickly. We looked at several systems and settled on Your Membership (a Community Brands product).  Over the past few weeks the Board, Ellen and I have been looking at what the new system can do to better serve the association and membership. The new system allows us to start including instructor and lead evaluator status in member profiles. Members can also print out their transcript of courses and certificates. The online store is much better as well. You will get an email in a few weeks giving you your new login and temporary password for the new system. We are looking forward to your feedback.
