2015 Institute

We are close to reaching record registration numbers for this year's Institute on Management and Leadership in Denver, CO October 7-9. Register before it's too late!

The Institute is a premier and engaging two-day workshop led by the Leadership for a Networked World at Harvard University.  In addition to offering a curriculum that includes skill-based workshops, lectures, and facilitated small group discussions, the Institute features a "live" case study drawn from real-world experiences. The case highlights a complex and relevant situation and acts as a catalyst for discussion on pressing leadership and management challenges and opportunities.

We received several strong case study submissions. This year's case study will feature Missouri's Health Home Initiatives. The case offers very strong alignment with the theme of convergence, as the state upended existing institutional models to respond to changing economic, political, social, and technological factors that created a new operating environment. Along the way, the team faced a multitude of leadership challenges that will spark robust discussion.

Inaugural Roundtable
Pathways to Value: Shared Services and E-Procurement

NASCA, NASPO, and the Leadership for a Networked World convened in Washington, DC May 5-6 for an inaugural topical Roundtable program with a focus on Shared Services and EProcurement.

Together, participants explored implications of viewing government processes, systems and resources as "components" that can be put together in new ways, shared and shifted to meet policy and programmatic goals. They discussed steps necessary to develop agile organizations that can continually grow as advances in information and communication technologies and cloud computing enable governments to work across organizational boundaries and gain economies of scale, economies of scope and economies of learning like never before.

NASCA will host a member webinar in July highlighting valuable takeaways from the Roundtable plus discuss next steps. Be on the lookout for the date and additional information.

Kronos Whitepaper:

 HR Centralization vs. Decentralization

"As chief administrators, we're all looking for innovative ways to increase the level of services we provide while driving down the cost of government. I have remained active in NASCA for nine years because I believe this organization embodies that mission. NASCA provides a forum for us to reach across borders to share our ideas, our challenges and our successes. We probably don't realize how many times we pick up the phone or send an email to someone we've met through NASCA, and that invaluable network and the knowledge it provides benefits not only us as professionals, but also our respective organizations as we turn those lessons learned and shared into good public policy."
