MEET THE PRESIDENT
Ebrahim Rehmtulla; President of Vancouver Jamaat
Meet 2020's first President feature and NASIMCO's very own Executive Councilor, Brother Ebrahim Rehmtulla.
Born in Lindi, Tanzania, Ebrahim moved to Vancouver at the age of 7 and grew up in a town named Squamish where he lived with his parents and two siblings. After high-school, he attended University of British Columbia where he completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting and Management Information System. He pursued his passion for accounting and obtained the CPA designation. Ebrahim is currently the Director of Finance at a HiTech company in Vancouver where he resides with his wife and 4 children.
Following in his fathers footsteps- Marhum Anver Ahmed Rehmtulla, former president of Lindi jamaat and a former trustee of the Vancouver jamaat, Ebrahim has been involved in community work in the Vancouver jamaat since he was a youth.
He has been involved in Youth Committee, publishing magazines (Shama) for youths and being involved in the Islamic camps.
Ebrahim’s interest in jamaat affairs deepened after his father passed away in 1998. A week after his father’s death, he took the position of a Treasurer for Vancouver jamaat. Since 1998, Ebrahim has held positions of Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and currently President since 2017.
Ebrahim is passionate about community engagement through various programs and inviting guest speakers from all over the world. Ebrahim aspires to build a community where youths are engaged as they are the future of the community. He encourages youths to participate in various sports competitions at different jamaats and connect with other youths in these places therefore creating a network within their age groups.
Ebrahim plans on continuing to work with seniors and youths of the community to bridge the gap between them and get the youths to shadow the seniors and be more involved in the community affairs. Ebrahim believes that a mosque should function like a community centre especially for the youths. He is currently working with NASIMCO to get youth involvement in different areas of the organization and provide the grassroots with understanding what NASIMCO stands for and their contribution to the North American jamaats.
Ebrahim is currently also a director of the Az Zahraa Housing Society that was established in 2018. The housing society’s purpose is to help new immigrants and families that need support by providing them with affordable housing close to the Az Zahraa Islamic Centre.
The World Federation of KSIMC 2020-2023 elections will be held on January 30th, 2020. Please contact your local jamaat for more information on the venue and timings. NASIMCO does not endorse any particular candidate, however we feel it is important to inform our communities of the candidates prior to election day. Please take some time to look through the details of the attached packet before casting your vote. We extend our best wishes to all the candidates and look forward to working with the president-elect in the near future.
This booklet is the result of a four-stage initiative called ‘The Khums Guidance Project’. The aim of the project is to provide practical guidance to the community on how Khums need to be calculated according to the most up-to-date rulings of His Eminence al-Sayyid Ali al-Husayni al-Sistani (may Allah protect all our scholars).
