Domestic Violence 101

Specifically designed for behavior health practitioners, this training will be the first in a series of trainings aimed at enhancing working knowledge of domestic violence, increasing understanding on collaborative approaches with systems and DV providers, and overall improve the ways we intervene and engage with survivors of domestic violence.

During this kickoff and training event, attendees will learn about the means that domestic violence is used and learn about the intersections of violence, mental health, substance use, and trauma. Attendees will learn about how to have conversations with clients to discuss domestic violence and receive palm-cards as a resource for engaging in discussions. Attendees will learn about the resources available to survivors of domestic violence who reside in Connecticut.

Therapists and Social Workers are increasingly on the front lines of dementia care — yet most received little to no training on how to provide therapy to people living with dementia and their families.

This workshop is a practical, heart-centered, 6-hour continuing education workshop that bridges the gap between what we know about dementia and what we actually do in the therapy room.

You'll learn individual therapy approaches that preserve identity, dignity, and quality of life at every stage. And you'll develop family therapy skills for the full arc of the caregiving journey — because dementia reshapes an entire family system, not just one person.

You'll leave knowing how to help individuals optimize brain health when living with dementia, and help families navigate ambiguous loss, understand the stages of dementia and caregiving, and have the difficult conversations. You'll also gain practical frameworks for the most common family dilemmas: balancing autonomy with safety — from driving cessation to living arrangements to medication management.
