Upcoming Chapter Elections!
The NASW-WA Chapter Board Secretary, TyKera Williams, is pleased to announce the 2022-2023 Election Slate. The Standards for NASW Chapter Nominations and Elections outlines that Chapters can proceed to the election since all nominees were slated. The Chapter Nomination and Leadership Identification Committee (NLIC) certified the following slate to the Chapter Board Secretary:
As you know, states are now preparing for the “unwinding” of continuous Medicaid and CHIP when the public health emergency ends, which is expected later this year. Up to 15 million people may be at risk of losing coverage. CMS and advocacy organizations are providing guidance on ways to prepare individuals with Medicaid for the upcoming redetermination process. Each state will be developing an “unwinding operational plan” for redeterminations and CMS is encouraging states to seek input from stakeholders. NASW will continue to monitor resources that may be helpful to your advocacy at the state level and provide additional guidance on how social workers can support individuals and communities as the public health emergency ends.
The federal government is soliciting proposals to fund various programs that prevent and address elder abuse. As noted in a recent NASW Practice Perspective, social workers are currently involved in similar grant-funded programs and play critical roles in elder justice. Click here for more information.

Poor People's Campaign: Calls to Action!
NASW has joined as an official partner of the Poor People's Campaign. The PPC’s guiding principles include a commitment to the preservation of democracy, to lifting up and deepening the leadership of those most affected by systemic racism and institutionalized oppression, and to elevating the human needs of individuals and communities affected by poverty.
The Washington PPC local affiliate contacted our Chapter and we have signed on as an organizing partner to the PPC campaign. As part of this newly formed partnership, NASW national staff will participate and serve on the planning committee for the Mass Poor People’s & Low-Wage Workers' Assembly and Moral March on Washington and to the Polls on June 18 in Washington, DC.
NASW will host a webinar on April 27th about Social Workers and the Poor People's Campaign titled “When You Lift from the Bottom, Everybody Rises!” Social Work and the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival" (1.5 CEUs). Check here for info and updates!
Take five minutes to tell the WA PPC campaign how you want to engage as a supporter! Fill out our supporter survey here!
