The SIDES Seminar will be held virtually, May 26-27, 2021

The Seminar is a gathering for state workforce members, employers, and third-party administrators (TPAs) to discuss current and developing trends in the unemployment program and how SIDES can be used to enhance integrity measures, streamline claims processing, and reduce agency costs.

NASWA members (state workforce agency personnel) and non-members may register at no cost.
NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR MARK SANDERS AWARD
Nominations are now open for the 2021 Mark Sanders Award for Exceptional Service to Veterans, with special emphasis on Veterans with Significant Barriers to Employment.

The award will be presented during the Eighth Annual NASWA Veterans Conference, July 28-30, 2021.

USDOL ANNOUNCES $31M FUNDING OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE REGISTERED APPRENTICESHIP TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE
The U.S. Department of Labor announced the availability of approximately $31 million in funds to establish Registered Apprenticeship Technical Assistance Centers of Excellence to support the expansion and modernization of technical assistance available in the registered apprenticeship system. The department’s Employment and Training Administration’s Office of Apprenticeship will work in close coordination with the centers.
UI INTERSTATE CONNECTION NETWORK (UI ICON)
The UI ICON webpage was recently revamped to include multiple resources for member states. Resources include:
  • Relevant USDOL ETA Advisories
  • Important deadlines
  • State contacts*
  • An ICON acronym list
  • A UCFE wage assignment calculator
  • A UCX Decision tree.

Additionally, new self-paced training modules are available through NASWA Learning. Subject areas include Interstate Benefit (IB) System Overview, UIQ, SID and IBIQ Applications, Unemployment Compensation for Federal Employees, IB 8606 Web Application. More modules are forthcoming.

INTEGRITY DATA HUB (IDH) - ANALYSTS AVAILABLE TO ASSIST WITH IMPLEMENTATION
The IDH team now has three IDH program analysts to assist state workforce agencies with the implementation and utilization of the IDH. The three analysts and their assigned USDOL regions are:

IDH BI-WEEKLY CALLS ON FRAUD IDENTIFICATION
The Integrity Data Hub holds bi-weekly calls covering a variety of fraud identification topics. Calls are held every other Friday at 1:00 pm ET. This month’s calls are scheduled for Friday, April 9 and Friday, April 23.



Who should attend? Any state workforce agency staff who utilize the IDH and/or receive or review IDH results and leads.

NEW WEBSITE LAUNCH
UI ITSC launched a new and updated website in March. The UI ITSC’s website is a unique resource for the UI community to share and access information on IT tools and solutions related to the UI program. Hosted on a SharePoint environment, the website serves as a collaborative workspace for states to interact with each other and UI ITSC to share and leverage lessons learned and successful state practices.
