NASWA in Action
COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE MEETING
Chair Chris Cannon (TN) and Vice-Chair Larry Parker (NC) welcomed 64 participants to the NASWA Communications Committee meeting held virtually on March 15.

The group was joined by Lenita Jacobs-Simmons and Richard Cesar from USDOL and discussed the priorities within the ETA Division for the upcoming year.

Updates on the new Committee Workgroups (Outreach, Onboarding & Committee Resources) were given, peer-to-peer discussion along with presentations on Promising Practices in LMI Outreach from the states of Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan and Tennessee.
JOINT TECHNOLOGY-UI COMMITTEE MEETING
NASWA’s Unemployment Insurance (UI) and Technology Committees held a joint meeting on March 11th with 102 participants in attendance. Jamie Suber (SC), Chair of the UI Committee, and Liz Carver (UT), Chair of the Technology Committee, started the meeting with a warm welcome and reviewed the agenda.
 
Participants were excited about several state promising practices shared virtually. Kierston Howard (CO), Julie Primo (CO), and Tim Cummins (NM) described how their respective states utilize robots to automate components of the UI Process. Marcele Crudele (LA) explained how his state leverages technology to automate income verification, especially for non-covered employees.
VETERANS AFFAIRS COMMITTEE MEETING
The NASWA Veterans Affairs committee met virtually on March 22 and 24. Over 60 members joined the call each day to get the latest information from USDOL VETS. In addition, they learned about NASWA’s new partnership with the National Association of State Directors of Veterans Affairs (NASDVA), and workforce and state VA leaders from Utah and Indiana discussed their collaborative efforts to serve Veterans.

Other presentations were made by Leslie Coffey, American Corporate Partners; Scott Sanders, NASWA; and Kristy Kaufmann, PatriotLink. NASWA Veterans Policy Director Lori Adams updated the group on the upcoming Vets conference June 28-30, and NASWA’s partnerships with Grow with Google, Hilton Honors and LinkedIn.
National Labor Exchange (NLx)
Reminder that the NLx Research Hub jobs data is available for state use. The NLx Research Hub provides state LMI shops labor market information with high-quality, transparent, real-time and historical data that represents the diversity of jobs available in the labor market. The NLx Research Hub holds roughly 70 million unique job postings from approximately 2010 to present day. Individual job posting records may include information such as: position title, location, job description, credentialing/education requirements and other fields. State LMI Directors can contact Ellen Samoriski, NLx Program Assistant, to learn more about this cost-free opportunity.

MASTERCLASS SERIES: SETTING THE STAGE FOR TRANSFORMATION
A total of 82 participants from 26 states/territories attended Workforce ITSC's first Masterclass Series learning event — Setting the Stage for Transformation. Over the two sessions, workforce veteran Rick Maher shared his model of organizational agility, linking it to Workforce ITSC’s Digital Transformation framework. This training helped states develop the mindset of becoming more agile in the digital age.

The second event in the series, Applying Digital Age Practices and Tools, is scheduled for May with registration opening soon!
UI Interstate Connection Network (ICON)
NEW LEARNING OPPORTUNITY AVAILABLE!
NASWA has recently released a new online learning lesson in the UI Interstate Connection Network (ICON) curriculum. The new self-paced Military-State Data Exchange System (MSDES) lesson is now available, in addition to an ICON Claims training module certificate. Additional lessons are in development.

State Information Data Exchange System (SIDES)
On March 23, SIDES officially announced the launch of its modernized E-Response platform. This upgrade enhances integrity and provides customers with an easier and more thorough experience.

The new system, which debuted March 23, has several modifications to help employers provide higher-quality responses to unemployment insurance requests.
UI IT Support Center (UI ITSC)
UI IT MODERNIZATION TRAINING
In March, UI ITSC delivered a series of virtual trainings for the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services (ADWS) managers and business analysts as they prepared for their upcoming UI IT modernization project. Below are the two courses provided to ADWS which are available to all states.

Provides managers and supervisors with an overview of the role UI subject matter experts play as they transition into the position of UI Business Analysts for UI IT Modernization projects.

Provides hands-on experience for UI Subject Matter Experts in business analysis techniques for improving UI business processes, developing and documenting requirements, and working with development vendors.
