Episode 5. Law of Treaties in International Law and International Relations

In this series, the NATO Association of Canada in partnership with the NATO Research Group out of the University of Toronto, explore issues related to security, prosperity, and the international rules-based order.

Each episode features a member of our team interviewing with either a practitioner, expert, or government official.

In this podcast, Professor Malgosia Fitzmaurice, professor at the Department of Law at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), and our senior research fellow Janakan Muthukumar discuss various aspects of treaty law and how understanding it would help practitioners and policymakers to draft international agreements to preserve peace and security.
Meeting with the Consul General of France in Toronto, Mr. Tudor Alexis
On January 15th, our team had the pleasure of meeting with the Consul General of France in Toronto, Mr. Tudor Alexis. In the meeting, we discussed the work of the Consulate in creating opportunities for collaboration between France and Canada.
The Honourable Marc Garneau Canada's New Foreign Affairs Minister
On January 12, the Prime Minister announced the Honourable Marc Garneau, as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs.

We look forward to working with the Minister.
Admiral Art McDonald Assumes Command of the Chief of Defence Staff
On January 14, Admiral Art McDonald assumed command of the CAF from his predecessor, General Jonathan Vance. We welcome the Admiral and commend General Vance for his outstanding service to Canada.

Meeting With Krista Mulenok and Monika Begovic of the Atlantic Treaty Association
On January the 8th, our team met with Krista Mulenok, Vice President of the Atlantic Treaty Association (ATA) and Secretary-General of the Estonian Atlantic Treaty Association, and Monika Begovic PhD, Secretary-General of the ATA. In the meeting, we discussed the chapters of the ATA and its current operations.

Also joining the discussion were NATO Association directors Lana Kharlip, Alexander Corbeil, Harry Burkman, and our Chair, The Honourable David Collenette.
