The NAOC will be holding an all-female panel on Canada’s response to COVID-19 on August 24th . The event will focus on how the government and military have addressed the logistical challenges posed by the current health crisis, and how they were able to work together to the benefit of Canadians.

In Memoriam,
Colonel John McKenna
The NATO Association of Canada is full of sorrow to report that Colonel John McKenna passed on July 7th. Colonel McKenna was a dear friend of the NATO Association, serving as long-time Vice-President and Director. Over the course of his military career he was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration with two clasps, the 1967 Canadian Confederation Centennial Medal, the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal and the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal. The NATO Association would like to extend our condolences to Colonel McKenna’s wife, Helen, their family, friends, and to all of those grieving his loss.

In Memoriam, 
Dr. Ignat Kaneff
The NATO Association of Canada is deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Ignat Kaneff on July 12th. Dr. Kaneff was a renowned philanthropist, former Director of the NAOC, and recipient of the Association's St. Laurent Award in 2012. Dr. Kaneff’s contributions to education, health care, social services, and the arts greatly improved the lives of many in Mississauga and throughout GTA. The NAOC would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Dr. Kaneff’s family, friends, and to all of those who are mourning his passing.

On July 16th, NATO Association of Canada research analyst Anvesh Jain had the pleasure to host an exclusive interview with Lieutenant-General Christine Whitecross on her final day as Commandant of the NATO Defense College in Rome, a position that she held since 2016.

On June 29th we collaborated with the  Canadian Centre for the Responsibility to Protect on our latest event: "Challenges & Opportunities in Global Security and Liberal Democracy: A Panel Discussion." This event hosted Dr. Tom Axworthy , Dr. Adam Chapnick , and Dr. Tina Park . The discussion was moderated by Dr. Jennifer Orange , who is a post-doctoral fellow at the Bill Graham Centre for Contemporary History.

On June 18th, the NATO Association of Canada hosted its inaugural joint event with the Institute for Economics and Peace! We had the pleasure of hosting our guest speakers Holly White , Advisor to the Director General responsible for Canada’s engagement in Egypt, Maghreb, Israel and West Bank/Gaza at Global Affairs Canada and Laurie Smolenski , Outreach and Development Officer at the Institute for Economics and Peace.

On June 3rd, the NATO Association of Canada hosted a moderated discussion with our Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Joseph McQuade, and Alexandra Alvarova who is working to unmask malicious information operations through her work. The discussion focused on propaganda, hybrid-warfare, data-weapons, artificial intelligence and disinformation.
