The House is in recess for the Juneteenth holiday, while the Senate is in today, tomorrow, and Thursday, with what expects to feature a light session.
The Senate will vote this week on Katherine Oler to be an Associate Judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia and Mustafa Kasubhai to be a U.S. District Judge for the District of Oregon. For the remainder of the week, the Senate will hold several committee hearings, including an Appropriations Transportation—Housing and Urban Development Subcommittee hearing on “Unlocking Department of Transportation Financing for More Transit-Oriented Housing Development,” and a Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing on “The Origins of COVID-19: An Examination of Available Evidence.”
To-date, House Republicans have passed the Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs spending bill on the full House floor by a vote 209 -197. The full House Appropriations Committee, led by Chair Tom Cole (R-Okla.), has also marked up the FY25 Defense, Financial Services—General Government, Homeland Security, Legislative Branch, and State–Foreign Operations spending bills and will attempt to begin passing more bills on the House floor during the week of June 24. Upon the chamber’s return, the relevant House Appropriations subcommittees expect to continue working on marking up and passing the FY25 Commerce-Justice Science, Labor-HHS-Education, Transportation-HUD, Interior-Environment, and Energy-Water bills and sharing the text for all five bills soon. Full committee markups of these remaining FY25 spending bills (in addition to the Agriculture-FDA spending bill) will occur on July 9-10.
Voters in Oklahoma and Virginia will vote in congressional primaries this Tuesday. Voters in Georgia’s 3rd and 14th Congressional District will head to the polls to decide primary runoff elections, with the 3rd district runoff winner the likely selection to replace retiring Rep. Drew Ferguson (R-Ga.) and the winner of the 14th district runoff to face off against Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).
