Congressional Outlook

The House and Senate are in recess for the next two weeks, returning to Washington, DC on September 9; there will be pro forma sessions on Tuesday and Friday, where members of Congress are allowed to formally introduce new legislation, however, no votes will be held and no formal business will be conducted.

President Trump is set to introduce a series of proposals - including mooted changes to background checks for gun purchases - following recent mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, according to the White House. Aides suggested the package would be released around the time Congress returns from its recess in early September.
