News & Updates...

Cedar Rapids Metro Task Force Communication

Dear School Families,

This communication is being shared as an update to the important work of our schools and parishes as it relates to the Cedar Rapids metro task force recommendation of systemization and the Middle School exploratory study committee recommendation of consolidation. This serves as a follow up to the message dated October 25.

The pastors had their first meeting on Thursday, November 2nd. The discussion was rich and exhibited a collaborative spirit and goodwill. The pastors will meet again in late November to continue the discussion and progress. No more information can be shared at this time.

At the point a decision has been made, this will be shared with the greater Cedar Rapids Catholic community in a similar format to this communication. Until then, we ask for continued prayers for this process and the important work of our pastors for the greater Catholic community.

Sincerely,

Cedar Rapids Metro Task Force Leadership Team

Veteran's Day

On Friday, November 10, we gratefully and solemnly remember all of those veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice in order to preserve freedom at home and around the world. On what we now call, “Veteran’s Day,” we ask our Heavenly Father to inspire leaders of all nations to seek peaceful solutions to all conflict. In a world where conflict all too often results in war, we ask Him to protect all those serving in our armed forces and to provide comfort and strength to their families and friends.

Join us for the flag raising ceremony after 7am Mass is finished, around 7:35am, all are welcome. There will be a “Missing Man” table displayed at the X. Take a moment to read the description on the table.

Vocations Awareness Week

A vocational call is the universal call to holiness. This holiness is expressed in how we live our lives. The call can be to married life, single life, Priesthood, diaconate and consecrated religious life. National Vocation Awareness Week, celebrated November 5-11, 2023, is an annual week-long celebration of the Catholic Church in the United States dedicated to promoting vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life through prayer and education, and to renew our prayers and support for those who are considering one of these particular vocations.

Prayer Service for Community Service Day

Before we disperse for Community Service Day, all of Xavier will gather in the Ron Thillen gym at 8:00 AM on Wednesday, November 8 for a short prayer service. All are welcome to attend!

Reconciliation Service

The sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered on Thursday, November 9, from 12:00 - 2:00 PM for juniors and sophomores.

Student Services...

Sophomore Leadership Opportunity

Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) is a summer leadership program in Iowa scheduled for June 7-9th. Xavier is able to nominate up to 5 students for this leadership camp. If interested, your student should email Mrs. Joens their answer to the following question: Who do you see as a great leader and why? by November 10. If chosen as Xavier’s nominee, students will need to pay the registration fee of $265 which covers lodging and meals during the camp.

Junior Leadership Opportunity

The American Legion of Iowa’s Boys State program is a great opportunity for current junior boys to gain valuable leadership skills. This 6 day camp is held in the summer, June 23-28th at Camp Dodge in Johnston, IA. The students learn about local & state government, meet elected officials, learn team building skills and compete for scholarship opportunities. The students' fees are paid for by a local American Legion Post. To apply or for more information, check out their website. Students may also contact Student Services if interested.
