COLLEGE SPOTLIGHT
GLENDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE (GCC)
BREWING A DREAM

On Nov 2nd, Glendale Community College held its Fall 2017 Business Lecture Series.

This was a two part event that began with an entrepreneur meet & greet, followed by a moderated panel discussion.

The meet & greet brought local entrepreneurs and students together with the intent of creating a Glendale Entrepreneurial ecosystem. Over 20 entrepreneurs were present to provide support and encouragement for the students.

During the meet & greet we also had a photographer on site to take free head shots for students to add to their LinkedIn profiles or to use for other business needs.

Following the meet & greet we had our panel discussion, "Brewing A Dream". For the event we brought in two local Brewers, Kirk Nishikawa from Brewyard Brewery and Adam Hiner from Boochcraft Kombucha. Kirk and Adam discussed their journeys as entrepreneurs and provided advice/inspiration for students who are aspiring entrepreneurs.

Overall we had 300 students present for the panel discussion. We also had the school newspaper, radio club, and campus TV station cover the event.

INDUSTRY NEWS
REPORTS & TRENDS
The “2017 Year-End Review of Import/Export Developments” conference staged by  Baker McKenzie  in Santa Clara, California this month generated some unexpected conclusions about supply chain resiliency and the future of global trade…most of it good.
This week, the value of a single bitcoin officially cleared $10,000 , a new high point that’s over an order of magnitude greater than its price at the start of this year.

Bitcoin has defied market expectations before, but in 2017, it didn’t just become more valuable. Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies have become an acknowledged part of the financial system — albeit a nebulous one.
California’s export trade grew in September, according to a Beacon Economics analysis of U.S. trade statistics released November 3 by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Foreign shipments by California businesses totaled $14.19 billion for the month, a nominal 4.0% increase over the $13.65 billion recorded in September 2016.
Another year, another list of the Top U.S. Cities for Global Trade.

If there’s one thing that strikes us about this list over the past couple of years is that the reach of the global economy has not just stretched to other shores but into virtually every city in the United States, no matter the size.

After months of teasing investors and fans that his company's first electric semi will "blow your mind," Tesla CEO Elon Musk finally took the wraps off the truck.
