President's Message
Bright minds grow brighter when gathered together! Coming off of our 3-day Propel Conference in Sacramento I'm reminded of the brilliance and bravery of the community called NAWBO.

Members from 11 NAWBO Chapter across the state, guests, sponsors, WBEC-Pacific leader Janice Green, WIIP leader Candace Waterman and more assembled at The Citizen! The 160+ attendees were truly there to Own It!  It was a joy to be in their midst!

Bank of America treated us to a fantastic awards reception where San Diego's Nan McKay took home the Woman Business Owner of the Year award. I observed relationships being built, businesses being grown and enough encouragement splashed around to fill an ocean. The finale walk to the Capitol and meetings with our State Representatives is always a meaningful highlight.

I want to personally thank our sponsors Bank of America, Sempra, Google, Union Bank, DGS, Comcast, Metropolitan Water District, PG&E, Morgan Stanley, CA American Water, Proxfinity and Communication Works for ensuring this valuable event grows every year!
And special thanks to Hilary Lentini and her dynamic Propel Committee and Summer Sepulveda from Plan the World. Your dedication and vision are an inspiration for all of us to Choose to Own It!

Keep on Growing!

President, NAWBO CA
Woman Business Owner of the Year
NAWBO California named our 2019 Woman Business Owner of the Year during the Propel conference. Please join us in congratulating:  Nan McKay, founder and CEO of Nan McKay & Associates, Inc.

In 1980, Nan founded Nan McKay and Associates to strengthen neighborhoods. She began in the basement of her home with $10,000 from her retirement fund, employing one full-time clerical person and several women friends as her contract trainers. Her goal was to assist housing authorities in operating their housing programs in compliance with HUD regulations. Today, Nan has a 600-person team and annual revenues of $60 million with offices in California, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, and Louisiana.

The San Diego-based, WBENC-certified company is recognized as one of the most effective, strategic, and compliance-focused organizations serving communities nationwide. Their expertise includes everything from program administration and inspections to community development strategies. Nan is one of just three women business owners in this industry.
