TITLE: Mascot
REPORTS TO: Director of Entertainment, NBA Team
SCOPE: Full Time; Salaried Exempt 

DESCRIPTION:
This position performs as the Mascot, Benny the Bull, at all home games, team events and outside appearances. This position provides high-quality, world-class performances that are consistent with the established and unique personality of Benny the Bull, the Bulls' entertainment strategy and the Chicago Bulls' brand. The ideal candidate has experience as a mascot, possesses excellent non-verbal communication skills, is athletically and physically fit, and has a creative and humorous personality. The Mascot must also possess the ability to solve problems within a fast-paced, high-pressure corporate environment. The Mascot will collaborate with all departments to ensure the fulfillment of company goals and the support of company philosophies.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • College graduate preferred.
  • Minimum 2 or more years' experience as a mascot at the collegiate, minor or professional league level. NBA performance experience is a "plus".
  • Must have reliable transportation and driving proficiency.
  • Ability to successfully complete all pre-employment screening.
  • Must have office and administrative experience, including: computing skills (Microsoft Office), verbal communication, organization and appropriate attire.
  • Strong work ethic, dedication and reliability.
  • Strong non-verbal communication skills.
  • Professional commitment to treat the Mascot's identity and physical description as if it were any other highly sensitive team information (i.e. strictly confidential).
  • Must possess an extraordinary level of creativity, energy, and spontaneity.
  • Good interpersonal skills and likeability (especially with children).
  • Good with spontaneous crowd-interaction.
  • Must have performing arts training (acting, dance, mime, comedy, improvisation, gymnastics).
  • Ability to handle the extreme physical stress of mascot performance.
  • Choreography and/or skit-writing experience.
  • General knowledge of sports, especially basketball.
  • Ability to dunk from a trampoline.
  • Understanding of social media trends and strategies.
  • Staff management, financial budgeting, sales, marketing, customer service experience are a plus.
  • Music, video editing and event production experience are a plus.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
  • Perform as the Mascot at all home games (41 regular season, plus playoffs).
  • Enhance the Bulls' game entertainment experience by attending weekly creative meetings and collaborating with other entertainment staff, production staff and performers on timeout, halftime and appearance performances, etc.
  • Manage schedule of appearances and perform at all Bulls' season ticket holder, sponsor and community events/programs, as well as other paid and "community events" as deemed important to the organization (approximately 200 per year). Potentially travel outside the Chicago area (e.g. exhibition games, NBA All-Star Game, international sponsor trips, etc.).
  • Be flexible for work hours beyond the typical work week for events both during the evenings and weekends, and plan to arrive early and be prepared for appearances.
  • Responsible for designing and maintaining the costume, wardrobe, props/giveaways, and visual collateral etc. for all mascot-related characters (e.g. inflatable mascots, mini-mascots and Elevators Dunk Team, etc.)
  • Oversee the maintenance of the Mascot van, Benny's Bull Ride, for traveling to appearances.
  • Work with Director of Entertainment to develop annual budgets for all Mascot accounts and maintain detailed records on spending, as well as orders placed for costumes and supplies.
  • Actively generate and report revenue for the mascot program which includes, but not limited to, new appearance opportunities, collaborative Corporate Partnership opportunities and new character branding initiatives for Mascot programs.
  • Collaborate with Branding & Communications departments to execute Mascot activations for team-wide branding initiatives, digital and social media strategy (Benny's page on team website, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts), retail merchandising, NBA Licensing and promotion, media appearances and interviews, etc.
  • Maintain a high level of personal health and fitness and prioritizing regular physical maintenance and rehabilitation.
  • Maintain the highest level of professionalism when representing the Chicago Bulls, the United Center and team partners

  • While performing duties of job, the employee will be constantly in costume. Move about the arena and during events to interact and entertain clients/fans. Work in excessive heat or cold under stressful physical conditions.
  • The duties of this position are performed indoors and outdoors. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud to during events and minimal during non-events.

Invitation Only! Individual must be available to participate in audition to be held tentatively on Sunday July 10th in Chicago, so please hold that date now. Applicable travel expenses will be reimbursed for the auditions. The final candidates will be required to submit to a background check through an independent resource.
