Donating an item to the NBA BankPAC Auction is a fun way to support the NBA State BankPAC. Donated items should have a retail value of at least $100 and need to be delivered to the NBA office by April 29. Popular items from past auctions include tickets to sporting events, golf packages, home decor, electronics and jewelry. See the current donation list here.

Your NBA BankPAC Auction donation assists the banking industry in electing pro-banking, pro-business candidates. The Annual NBA State BankPAC Auction will be held during the NBA Convention on May 8-10 at the Embassy Suites in La Vista.

The NBA VEBA Board of Trustees met last Friday to review the prior year's experience for the group insurance plans offered through NBA Benefit Plans and to recap the 2024 plan year renewal. The VEBA Board generally meets three times per year and consists of 10 bankers, two from each of the five groups of the NBA. NBA VEBA member banks vote to elect the members of the VEBA Board via an online voting process. The board member may serve up to two consecutive three-year terms.

National Ag Day, celebrated on March 19, is just around the corner! To support your promotional efforts, the NBA is providing ag placemats and ag fact cards.

Although the Nebraska Department of Agriculture is awaiting the data to finalize the cards, they anticipate completing the cards by early March.

Scenes of Nebraska Calendar

Anyone can be a photographer - and we want to see your photos! No matter where you live in Nebraska, the most beautiful landscapes, cityscapes and wildlife scenes can be seen every day of the year. Our annual Scenes of Nebraska Calendar features photos taken by Nebraska bankers and their family members. Photo submissions will be accepted thru March 1.

Share Your Photos

Here are some tips to keep in mind when taking photos:

• Think about taking images that are appropriate for each month. We look for photos that represent Nebraska in all of its seasons.
• Think of the many holidays throughout the year and what images would be fitting to display during that particular month.
• Think outside the box! Well-known landmarks are obvious choices for photos. But think of other locations or subjects that you wouldn't necessarily think of as "Nebraska." We're always looking for unique images!

Legislative, Policy and Regulatory Updates

NBA Opposes Proposed Board Governance Rule

The NBA recently sent a letter raising concerns about a Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) proposal to establish new governance and risk management guidelines for banks over $10 billion in assets. The NBA said the FDIC has provided "little to no justification" for the guidelines and noted the "existing regulatory authority of the FDIC is adequate to achieve its stated policy objectives and to guard against potential bank failures." The NBA also joined the American Bankers Association and 51 other state bankers associations in a similar letter. The proposal has also drawn opposition from the Conference of State Banking Supervisors (CSBS) who said the proposal would "create confusing and conflicting mandates at the federal and state level."

FinCEN Reports Surge in BSA Filings on Virtual Currency in Online Child Exploitation Cases

The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) has reported a rise in Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) filings related to the use of convertible virtual currency in cases of online child sexual exploitation and human trafficking. The analysis also outlined four typologies detailing common trends observed in BSA reports linked to child exploitation and human trafficking.

FFIEC Releases Examination Principles on Bias in Residential Lending

The Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) has introduced a set of principles aimed at providing guidance to banking regulators in their oversight of discrimination in residential property appraisals and evaluations during examinations of supervised institutions. These guidelines are designed to ensure that regulatory compliance and risk management practices are well-suited to identify and address bias in the valuation of residential properties.
