FFIEC Releases HMDA Data
The Federal Housing Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) published 2022 Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) data for 4,460 financial institutions, covering 14.3 million home loan applications. The data indicates the share of mortgage loans originated by independent mortgage companies not affiliated with depository institutions declined in 2022, accounting for 60.2% of mortgages compared to 63.9% in 2021.
The report also indicated that the percentage of closed-end home purchase loans granted to Black borrowers increased from 7.9% in 2021 to 8.1% in 2022. However, there was a slight decrease from 9.2% to 9.1% in loans granted to Hispanic-White borrowers. Meanwhile, loans given to Asian borrowers experienced an increase from 7.1% to 7.6%.

Regulators Adopt Updated Commercial Real Estate Accommodation Policy Statement
The federal bank regulatory agencies issued a joint policy statement on commercial real estate loan accommodations and workouts. The statement calls on financial institutions to "work prudently and constructively" with good borrowers during times of financial stress. The statement updates previous guidance, adding a section on short-term loan accommodations, which includes payment deferral agreements or other assistance.
