NBA Members Approve New Colorado Bankers Association Affiliate Membership Category

Today, the NBA held a special convention to vote on proposed changes to the NBA’s amended and restated articles of incorporation to create a new class of associate members, Associate Member – Colorado Bankers Association Affiliate. The amendment was approved unanimously. Beginning Jan. 1, members of the Colorado Bankers Association that join the NBA under this associate membership will be eligible to access NBA programs and services, including those offered through NBA Benefit Plans.

NBA BankPAC…Together We Can Make a Difference!

BankPAC is a key part of the NBA's government relations efforts. The funds raised are used to make contributions to political candidates for Nebraska's Unicameral and congressional delegation. When your contribution is combined with others within the banking industry, it works for the good of the entire industry in Nebraska.

The NBA BankPAC Committee directs the fundraising efforts and determines which candidates receive financial support. The committee encourages all NBA members who have not already made their contribution to participate by urging their officers, directors and employees to support the industry for which they work. Conducting an internal BankPAC campaign will assist in reaching the increased goal of $200,000.

There are a few simple steps to running an internal BankPAC campaign:

  • Visit nebankers.org/bankpac for more information
  • Designate an employee to be your BankPAC captain
  • Discuss the importance of NBA BankPAC at an upcoming meeting with your employees, board of directors and shareholders and encourage them to make individual contributions to BankPAC
  • Celebrate the bank’s success!
  • Jeans Day: Have a dress-down day at your institution. In the past, banks have used this promotion to allow employees to wear everything from jeans to their favorite team’s logo wear. It does not matter how you interpret Jeans Day - the important part is supporting our efforts.
  • Floater Days/Personal Days: Employees who contribute over a certain dollar amount to NBA BankPAC have their name entered into a drawing for floater or personal days.

Be creative! Don’t forget to send your pictures to the NBA so that we can promote your accomplishments to all NBA members.

If you have questions about the NBA's political action efforts, contact Jennifer Heaton at the NBA at jennifer.heaton@nebankers.org or 402-474-1555.

‘Operation Homeless’ Check Fraud Resurfaces in Nebraska

Criminals are forging business checks and recruiting vulnerable individuals, such as the homeless, to cash them. The scheme involves altering stolen check details or using information from the dark web. In recent cases, the criminals have taken the homeless from Omaha to rural banks to attempt to cash the checks. Banks are urged to be extra vigilant when processing business payroll checks.
