Dear Friends,

I’m excited to let you know that Arts for the Aging received a local impact grant award from Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation here in Washington DC. Our honor is one among just eight organizations recognized for community impact and uplift in the region. A few of our teaching artists joined me recently for the award presentation at NBC studios, and I sat down with news anchor Molette Green to talk about how the funds will advance our work. See the video here.

"This grant will bring painting, dancing, singing, storytelling, poetry engagements and more to communities on our extensive wait list—always at no cost to individuals. It will fund expert collaboration to better capture and tell the stories of how the arts come to life in our workshops--creating guides for telling our stories, making a mini-documentary for exhibition."

We will expand our reach and more effectively share our impact with those that can help us do more of this work. We are deeply grateful to Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation for their belief in our mission—together we’ll boost our community engagement and how we tell our stories.

Our Mission

Since 1988 Arts for the Aging has practiced what studies now show --- the value of regular arts participation for improved physical, cognitive, and emotional health. We connect older adults and caregivers who need it most with arts experiences to increase social engagement and prevent loneliness, and we equip professional artists with curriculums, trainings, and skills to ignite self-expression and social connection vital to healthy aging and caregiving. We design and deliver in-person and virtual workshops in consort with grassroots to premiere community partners, and we offer multidisciplinary art forms: painting, dancing, singing, storytelling, poetry-making and more. We see first-hand how our programs inspire empathy and respect, foster communication and belonging, and promote social connection.
