2025 NBCP Producer Registration

A friendly reminder that your annual producer registration must be kept up to date to be considered compliant and in good standing with NBCP. You are considered in good standing if you complete and send the form back each year.

Weekly Price Report

The NBCP website has a Weekly Market Price Report based on cattle sale pricing from the previous week within the Eastern Region, including such sales as the Atlantic Stockyards Ltd., Carvell's Livestock Auction Barn, Quebec (St. Isidore) and Ontario. The current ABP price is also listed. All prices listed are live, except ABP and QC Fed Steers (Carcass). All pricing (other than bob calves) is based on $/lb.

The Weekly Price Report is updated every Tuesday morning and can be found here.

On Friday, May 2nd, Minister of Agriculture Bloyce Thompson proclaimed May 5th as Mental Health in Agriculture Day on PEI, as a way to remind farmers and farm families of the importance of keeping up with their mental health.

We want to remind all of our members of the free and confidential resources that exist at FarmersTalk.ca.

One of these resources is a farmers counselling service, which is available to all members of the PEI farming industry, and their families. A few common examples of what the counselling service could help with are child management, couples issues, farm transition challenges, and stress and anxiety. Information on the counseling services can be found at FarmersTalk.ca or you can get in touch with the service by calling 1-902-894-8006.

2025 Canadian Beef Check-Off Agency Award

The Canadian Beef Check-Off Agency (the Agency) continues to diversify its youth strategy with the renewal of the $2,000 annual scholarship, aimed at students who intend to make an impact in Canada’s beef industry.

The scholarship is open not only to beef producers and those directly involved with their families, but it is open to students who can see unique ways to make an impact through marketing, research, public engagement, and other areas where check-off dollars are invested to generate value for the beef industry in Canada.

“We are working hard to ensure that we are engaging the next generation of industry leaders,” said Trevor Welch, Agency Chair. “This scholarship allows us to reach pockets of young producers that we often find it challenging to connect with.”

While preference may be given to applicants who are beef producers or have a background in agriculture, it is not a requirement for the scholarship. 

Applicants are asked to submit a 1-2 minute video, showcasing their desire to improve and grow Canada’s beef industry in a unique way. The investment of the beef check-off in Canada delivers value to the beef industry, and the scholarship seeks to support those who want to make an impact in the same way. 



The deadline for scholarship applications is June 30, 2025 and the selected applicant will be announced during the Agency’s AGM in August, which will be held virtually.

Digging Deeper - Why These Nitrogen Management BMPs?

The On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF) supports specific nitrogen management Beneficial Management Practices (BMPs), but how and why were those BMPs chosen? The Farm Resilience Mentorship (FaRM) Program, an initiative of Farmers for Climate Solutions, is excited to host a webinar with Dr. David Burton, FCS’ Scientific Advisor and Professor Emeritus at Dalhousie University. Together, we will dive deeper into nitrogen management BMPs, and the impact that they could have on building on-farm resilience and reducing emissions.
