2021 will be a Year of Transformation
New Buildings Institute has weathered the unexpected turns brought by 2020 and come through stronger. Efforts to make our organization more diverse and equitable have inspired growth in the Board of Directors and Senior Fellows cohort, bringing a vast array of experiences and viewpoints to our advising bodies. We have grown our staff and recently completed a strategic planning process through 2023, providing a roadmap for both the internal and external transformation needed to make NBI a force for addressing the climate crisis through building sector transformation.
Welcome to four new members of the NBI Board of Directors
Responding to calls for a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive building industry, NBI staff and Board of Directors put a new framework into action aimed at transforming the building industry, starting within our own organization.

We are proud to introduce our new board members elected at the December 2020 meeting: Bing Liu, Senior Manager of Codes, Standards, and New Construction at Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance; Kimi Narita, Senior Strategic Advisor, American Cities Climate Challenge at Natural Resources Defense Council; Corrine Van Hook Turner, Director of Climate Innovation at Movement Strategy Center; Kathryn Wright, Program Director, Building Energy at Urban Sustainability Directors Network
Welcome to these new members, who are transforming our world into a better place!
NBI staff led our efforts this year to reach out to emerging, as well as established, voices in the buildings efficiency community. These new board members increase the range of our expertise and professional experience and can help us achieve equity goals along with climate goals in our buildings policies.
