September 10, 2021
Hi folks,

We had an abbreviated but productive week of school at NBJH. All of our fall sports teams held their first games of the season, instrumental music rehearsals are up and running and study halls and tutorial are open for business. Next week is another shortened week as school is closed on Thursday in recognition of Yom Kippur, but we have a packed agenda including the start of MAP testing on Monday and Tuesday as well as our first round of SHIELD testing with 6th graders on Wednesday. (See below for more info.)

I'll make another plea to our drivers picking up students in the carline after school. In order for things to run smoothly and safely, we really need everyone to abide by our procedures. No cars should park along the north side of Maple Avenue across from the school. There are No Parking signs that prohibit parking between 3-4pm as this interferes with traffic moving west toward Orchard Lane. Another issue we are having is when cars stop in the carline heading east on Maple Avenue near the ball field. This is forcing cars to head into the oncoming traffic lane to go around the stopped vehicles. Families that want their child to walk to their car should park along Orchard Lane rather than enter the carline on Maple Avenue. Thanks again for your cooperation on this matter. Our goal is to create a safe and efficient pickup line for everyone.

SHIELD Testing Begins
NBJH testing will begin on Wednesday, September 15 for 6th-grade students who are participating. Students in 7th and 8th grade who did not opt out nor are vaccinated will be tested on Thursdays, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Due to Yom Kippur, their first test will be on Sept. 23.

September 20&21 -- MAP math (in math classes)

Outdoor Ed Registration
Online registration for the 6th grade Outdoor Education trip is now open. Families can register here for the September 29-30 trip. For additional information about this year's trip, please visit our Outdoor Ed WebpageRemember that 6th graders need to have a current/updated physical form on file with our Health office in order to participate on this trip.

PTO Membership
The NBJH PTO is extending an invitation for families to join the PTO. PTO Membership asks families and staff members to make a single $15 contribution for the annual PTO dues. The dues help fund activities such as Career/LIFT Day, 6th Grade Dance Assembly, grade level field trips, 8th Grade Graduation Party, Staff Appreciation lunch, Teacher Grants and much more. The account allows families to make a contribution to the Free Will campaign, provides access to the PTO Directory App and enables families to purchase treats at future special event days. For questions, please contact Monique Howard, VP for Membership, at You can join now at the NBJH PTO website.

Enjoy the weekend...
