This is a brief recap of the actions and key items from last night's National Board of Directors meeting. These will be provided the day after the meeting going forward. We will try to put these in the regular newsletter on that day, if possible. Because this is the first one and because it is likely more lengthy than usual we are sending it in a separate special newsletter. It will also be available in the Member Portal section of our website.
USASA National Board of Directors (NBOD) Meeting Recap

Action Items and Key Notes from the NBOD Meeting
1. Filling the Vacant At Large Position. The NBOD approved a plan to open up this
vacant position to the full membership. The NBOD approved a motion to have a special
election held in February 2025 at the US Soccer AGM to fill the position.
2. 2024–25 Committee Appointments: The NBOD approved a hybrid plan to open up
appointments to both recommendations from NBOD members and expression of
interest from the full membership. Interested persons should express their interest on
serving on a committee by completing THIS FORM indicating the committee name and
including a very brief description/summary of their qualifications.
Nominations made from any NBOD member will also be considered. Nominations from
an NBOD member will be sent to Karon, Bruce, and the President using a separate
form sent to NBOD members.
The nomination period for all committees except the National Cups Committee will
remain open until October 31, 2024.
The National Cups Committee and appointment of a Chair to that Committee are priority
appointments that should be made within the next ten days, so persons expressing
interest in serving on that committee should either notify their Regional Director or
contact Karon and Bruce right away by email or use THIS FORM but NOT LATER
THAN October 20, 2024.
The other committees that need to be appointed are:
Appeals, Credentials, Finance & Budget, Governance, Hall of Fame, Marketing, National Cups, Referee, Rules, Social Media, Technology and Veteran's Cup
3. Moving USASA Funds to Achieve Better Interest Rates. The NBOD approved a
plan to allow a small group (the President, Treasurer, Executive Director, and Budget &
Finance Committee Chair) to meet remotely ASAP to make immediate decisions on the
repositioning of USASA financial assets to achieve higher returns.
4. National Cups Fees and Policies. The NBOD approved a request to schedule a
meeting (by Zoom) the week of October 21 to allow stakeholders and current committee
members to go over urgent outstanding items/questions. NBOD members that will be in
attendance are: Fritz, Karon, Otey, Robin, Cezar, and Karissa. Bruce will coordinate
the scheduling of that meeting.
5. One-on-One Membership Meetings. Individual 1:1 membership meetings with Jim
and Bruce (by Zoom) will be scheduled starting the week of October 21, 2024 and
continuing each week thereafter until completed. Meetings are expected to take place
during traditional business hours (9:00 am – 5:00 pm). A form for selecting an available
time slot will be made available to the membership.
6. Registration report through August 2024. We are on track with past years, currently
at 108,000 players. Members that have not sent in their registration reports will be
contacted after September numbers are final.
7. Update on Strategic Planning with Collective Global. We are about 70% complete
on the entire items included in the engagement with Collective Global. A report from
Collective Global summarizing the feedback from the workshops that took place at the
AGM in Frisco is expected by the end of October. The NBOD and USASA staff have
additional virtual meetings to schedule with Collective Global. A complete report,
including the strategic plan and a roadmap, are expected to be made available to the
membership before the US Soccer AGM. Payment for the engagement is complete,
except for the reimbursement of travel expenses.
8. NBOD Subcommittee updates - draft Policies from the Governance Committee. The
Subcommittees will be sent the latest version of draft policies from the Governance
Committee and should complete their review of assigned policy sections in the next two
weeks so that the policies can hopefully be approved by the next meeting.
9. Budget Amendment for Hurricane relief. The NBOD approved an amendment to the
budget to allow a donation of $2,500 to be made to World Central Kitchen.
10. Next NBOD Meeting. The next meeting will be Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at
7:00 pm CST. After that meeting, the plan is to hold regular monthly meetings on the
first Tuesday of each month.
